I just got the disc for review, and have not had the time to really digest it, but upon cursory listens it is a return to their earlier sound. Not a hint of dance-oriented material, mostly instrumental mellow grooves. A bit more electronic than the first album. Two explicit tribute pieces in "Ransome" and "Earth to Earth." Nappy G's apparently no longer with the group, he only appears on one song.

If you like the first GC album, you'll like this. Personally, I found Declassified to be my favorite of their albums, so this switch back is throwing me off a bit. What I liked about their albums is that they always added something different to their sound, incorporating drum n bass, house, or Roy Ayers "Running Away"-era grooves. Maybe they've experimented as much as they wish to and now they're focusing on what they really like. Maybe a lot of people are feeling like Stimp so they decided to go back to the sound that got them their initial base.

Regardless, there are several slamming cuts on here. I just feel like I've heard them do this style already.

    Anthony
