Other Music
Etherea
Temple Records
those three are the best for experimental/ambient/downtempo.
temple is going out of bizniz, so all their records are 25-50% off.
as far as d&b.... Breakbeat Science is the best.
hip hop? couldnt tell ya.
check out Direct Drive @ Baktun on Saturday night for d&b, and
on Sunday check out Undercity @ Halcyon for experimental/ambient
dub etc etc.
all of the above are in Manhattan except Undercity @ Halcyon, which is
right across the river in Brooklyn. not a difficult or scary trip.
phone numbers? i dont have em off hand, but all of the above
do have web pages. i can give ya the whereabouts tho:
Breakbeat Science: E 9th btwn 1st and 2nd Aves, closer to 1st.
there is a big sign that sez "STORE" on the outside.
Halcyon: 227 Smith Street btwn Butler and Douglass. F or G train
to Bergen Street. the party Undercity is from 7 - 12 (sundays).
Baktun: 14th Street btwn 9th and 10th Aves. it is in the middle of
the street on the southside. directly across the street from Baktun
is some snobby upscale club. you dont wanna go in there.
Temple Records: Ave B btwn East 2nd & E 3rd (or maybe E 3
and E 4th). you cant miss the place.
Other Music: hmmmm.... its across the street from Tower records
World Music store. it might be Bleecker Street, or maybe west 4th.
either of those 2. i'm not sure. but it IS btwn Broadway and LAfayette.
Other Music is incredible for obscure, hard to find music.
