OSUNLADE
I know some of you are hip to this very talented dj/producer. His new
Paradigm LP (Soul Jazz) has been getting played by Gilles Peterson,
Patrick Forge, Deli G., and many you off the list. "Rader Du"/
"Blackman" has been a very important single this year. His sound: a
fusion of jazz, soul, afro, brazilian/ latin, and deep house. His Yoruba
label has been a prolific quality music maker turning out big tunes
Marie St.Williams' "Closer I Get", Sambas' "Que Vive el Canto", and
Erro's "Don't Change". Also his El Primer Ano LP (yoruba) from March
2001, has been one of my faves prior to the awesome Paradigm. I still
don't have a vinyl copy of Paradigm, but I heard the cd-r from my
production partner Saint (Sambas/ LIberacion/ Universoul). I love "I
don't know" from El Primer Ano, because of it's deep, sexy, and soulful
groove, kinda reminiscent to early Romanthony. Also the very cool
afro/latin vibe of "Cantos A Ochun Et Oya" is one of my faves in every
dj set, and on my new CD.
I know Osunlade has been all over Europe (twice), Canada, and all over
the east coast. But not in the west coast yet.
But since, Saint has released Sambas (and is good friends with him) on
his label, we hope to have him come out and play in Sept. or Oct. for
our new Soul Phusion monthly. I am very inspired by his music.
Who else is feeling the one like Osunlade?????
Peace,
Essential
