Couldn't help stickin' my head in this one. Also, there
was thread around end of april that kinda touched this
subject as well. Check the archives.
Alright, another hip hop top 10.
1. Gang Starr - Step in the Arena
2. Colors Soundtrack; had some dodgy songs, but also had
some great ones from Ice-T, Eric B & Rakim, Big Daddy Kane,
Kool G. Rap...
3. Dream Warriors - And Now the Legacy Begins
4. Digable Planets - Reachin'
5. De La Soul - is Dead
6. A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory (but Peoples'
Instinctive Travels... comes close)
7. Anything with Talib Kweli; ridiculously underrated since
Mos Def blew up, but his stuff is superb as well. Check out
Manifesto on the first Lyricist Lounge, the Reflection
Eternal stuff (the Blast is one of my favourite hip hop
tunes going right now), the Black Star stuff (Respiration
Remix, niiice.)
8. Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation of Millions...
WTF!? only two slots left? How'm'I 'sposed to represent
the breadth of hip hop in only ten slots! Alright the next
ones are for the underground.
9. Anything from the Sound Providers. They've had a bunch
of top-notch 12" on quarternote/ABB - Transmission/The
Field, Get Down/No Time, The Difference/Yes Y'all
10. T-Love - Nobody Knows My Name 12"; Representin' all the
dope underrepresented female MC's (Someone give What? What?
a record deal already)
There's a lot of stuff missing from the above list, but
what can you do?
And now, some opinions on previously rep'd stuff...

Yes! He's never done anything even close to approaching it.

I used to love her. "One Day It'll All Make Sense" is
another great Common album.

Check out Basic Training Boot Camp's greatest hits for an
abridged version, along with some other assorted BCC
goodness from Heltah Skeltah,

Was ok, but the Chronic was better.

Barely, but thanks for reminding me! Great list (except for
the Cypress Hill. Never did really get into them). I was
just spinning Brooklyn Queens last saturday night, and now,
I'm gonna have to dig up all my PRT and Brand Nubian tapes.

"It's Not What You Think It Is" was really good, too, and
featured a song with a rap from Digable Planet's Butterfly,
I think (under pseudonym).
