    Hey Kids,

First, I want to thank everyone who wrote back regarding the supposed
demise of Live365.com. Your notes of support and sympathy were
greatly appreciated. The good news, is that Live365 hasn't bitten the
bullet yet, but how long they stick around remains to be seen.

Last week, a letter circulated from a now former-employee in the
marketing department, claiming that the service was going the way of
Webvan. After the e-mail made the rounds of several industry lists,
panic ensued and an executive with the company performed a little
spin control and reassured everyone that although 25% of the staff
had been laid off, they were still alive and well [for more insight
on the story, check yesterday's edition of the Radio And Internet
    Newsletter: <http://www.kurthanson.com/>].

What is clear however, is that given the volatility of the online
music space, companies like Live365 have and will continue to shut
down or be gobbled up by larger corporations if they can't attain
profitability or escape the legal muscle of the major record labels.
You can help by using these services and prove to the investors that
there is a viable business model and that these services are
valuable. Hell.....when I was a kid, I dreamed about being able to be
a DJ and broadcast from my bedroom. That day is here and available to
anyone who wants it - don't let a good thing get away from us.

On tap tonight: the new album from Victor Malloy ("The Musings Of
Monsieur Malloy") that positively defines the word
'languid.'....there are some definite comparisons to be made to the
Hefner album and that makes sense, as not only are they label mates,
but rumor has it that they're brothers as well.....it doesn't get
more chill than this.....Nubian Mindz's "New World Chaos" juxtaposes
underground Detroit techno with plenty of abstract beats......"Home"
from Beady Belle is a thoroughly delightful CD featuring Norway's
Beate Lech and bassist Marius Reksjų....blend techno, pop, jazz and
funk, add a dash of Bugge Wesseltoft and you've got one fine musical
    meal.

Although I didn't mention them last week, I want to give props to the
new CD from Tijuana's Panoptica that collects their four 10" singles
for the first full album from a member of the Nortec Collective.....
I'm loving the new discs from Four Tet ("Pause") and To Rococo Rot &
I-Sound ("Music Is A Hungry Ghost"), both of which extend the
boundaries of post-rock and experimental techno to include music
that's hauntingly beautiful, alongside tracks that are more icy and
forbidding......finally, we have a one-hour mix from the legendary
Steinski that was created for some friends across the pond and will
be dropping bits and pieces from it in the weeks to come......

That's it for this week - ciao for now!
    David
