just picked up a promo copy from a local second hand store (can you believe
it!), there are some great tracks further on in the album, in particular
"Truth or Dare", featuring Kelis and terrar, "run to the sun", and "baby
doll". They really mix it up on this lp, hard to describe, a place where
hip-hop, r 'n' b, soft-rock (anyone hear them drop America's "tin man" om
Gilles Peterson's show? Mad), metal and broken-beats meet. While I was
playing it tonight a friend came round, she said "these guys are mental"
which sums it up.
In short definitely worth checking, especially if you liked the kelis album.
Keep an open mind, 'cos it ain't straight hip-hop...
Oh and on the recent hip-hop thread, my favourites:
Common - like water for chocolate
mos def - black on both sides
de la soul - 3 feet high
blackalicious - nia
dj shadow - endtroducing
rae and christian - sleepwalking
jay-dee - welcome 2 detroit
