OBSERVATIONS & RESEARCH
-------------------------------------------
*The Lithium Project-Passa Fundo-Hydrogen Dukebox*
Six diverse cuts above the rest, make The Lithium Project rise above
of a sea of derivative artists. Precise drums and deft orchestration
put the drum & bass title cut somewhere within the realm of early
London Electricity, the experimental 'live' spirit of Squarepusher's
"Music is Rotted One Note" and Isaac Haye's epic funk soundtracks.
Also included; 3 drum and bass pieces of synthesizer bliss, injected
with some detailed drum programming; a Detroit style, melodic techo
rework of "Passa Fundo" slightly on the brokenbeat side; and an
incredible, 13 minute free jazz fusion workout, that owes inspiration
to far too many 70's masters to mention here.
*Boswick Gates-?-Colourform/Om 12" (Test)*
Simon Richmond of Palmskin Productions and Charlie Tate of King Kooba
turn out a wicked debut for Om Record's new 2 step/nu breaks
sublabel, Colourforms. One side offers up an unconventional bit of 2
step, layered and undulating with dubbed out elements; while the flip
offers one of those relentless tech-house rollers (complete with a
shuffling four on the floor beat and a rumbling bassline) that
somehow gets swept up into the sets of UK Garage, progressive, techo
and freestyle DJs all the same.
[5] SPECIAL THANKS
Special thanks to Kim Schlechter for all of her editing expertise and
advice. From the A.a. CD, to flyers and this Lab Report, thanks for
