The BBC Jazz Awards, which take place on 31 July at London's Queen
Elizabeth Hall, throws up some interesting nominations for the inaugural
awards.
The nominations include:
Best Band: Courtney Pine Band, Julian Argüelles Octet, Dave O'Higgins
Biggish Band.
Rising Star: Alex Wilson, Ben Castle, Zoë Rahman.
Best Instrumental: Alan Barnes, Tim Garland, Andy Sheppard. Best
Vocalist: Norma Winstone, Stacey Kent, Ian Shaw.
Best CD: Jean Toussaint & Nazaire Street Above The Underground, Iain
Ballamy Pepper Street Interludes, John Surman Coruscating.
Services To Jazz: Pete King (Ronnie Scott's); Peter Ind (Wave
Records/Bass Clef Club); Bill Ashton (NYJO).
Jazzwise has 3 pairs of very sought after, very hot tickets for the BBC
Jazz Awards, talking place at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on the 31st July
2001. These passes will give six people the chance to enjoy the biggest
celebration of jazz today and witness some very special live
collaborations performed exclusively for the awards, all hosted by Jools
