I wasn't gonna go check out this show cause of the ticket price ($45), well,
ain't I glad as funk I bit the bullet and shelled out the dough for what was
one of the most intense nights of music I've known. Opening act Izm, a trio
made up of members of the All-stars, played heavy funk with plenty of
soaring guitar solos, which was pretty cool, but I just itched for the
appearance of the P-Funkateers, who arrived about an hour and 15 mins into
the night. Up to this time the venue had been steadily filling, and by now
it was packed, for the debut performance of George Clinton (in any of his
    guises) and the P-Funk All-stars.

With so many peeps on stage, you'd be forgiven for thinking that it might be
all too much, but not a bit of it, these guys are tight! From the get go,
they blasted out tune after tune of glorious funk, of which I can't remember
one that was under ten minutes long. Personal highlights; Give up the Funk,
Cosmic Slop, One Nation, Flashlight and Gamin' on ya. A tad disappointed
that they didn't play any of the three tunes I anticipated the most; Dr.
Funkenstein, Mothership Connection, and probably my favourite tune, the
lounge funk classic, That was my Girl, but with the four hour + spectacle on
show, and some hard bopping to be done, my disappointment paled into
insignificance. These guys really know how to get a crowd moving, with
penalty of audience participation and the dexterity of the solo's,
especially the brass section, riffing all night, it was enough to make you
think you'd just pigged out on the biggest, most satisfying meal of your
    life.

My main gripe was with the venue, the Red Box. One of Dublin's premier
clubs, at least it was when it opened 8 or 10 years ago, and it has no chill
out room, the only area where you can sit is upstairs in a few chairs that
we couldn't get near all night, and believe me, after 4 hours of standing
and funking your ass off, really tires these old bones. If you plan on
catching the All-stars, make sure you're wearing comfortable shoes, or the
venue has a place to rest your weary bones.

I'd do a more in-depth review but I'm still wrecked from last night, and
work is the last place I need to be. So all I can say is get out and see the
P-Funk All-stars, you will not be disappointed.

    Willy

P.S. I would be truly grateful if someone could point me in the right
direction as to finding info on the current members of P-Funk, any help at
    all would be much appreciated
