Dear all,
To my dismay this morning, my workstation was infected with the
W32.Sircam.Wom@mm virus. I removed it quickly, however I am not
sure how many addresses it managed to snatch and use, therefore
I am sending you this precautionary e-mail.
Before you read on, you may find more info and a removal tool at
these addresses:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/pf/w32.sircam.worm@mm.html
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sircam.worm@mm.removal.tool.h
tml
The particular e-mail you may have received had the title "adeia"
with an attachment titled adeia.doc.pif - DO NOT OPEN THIS! - and
a few line of text saying:
"Hi! How are you? I send you this file in order to have your advice
See you later. Thanks"
If opened, the virus finds a random file in you computer (usually
a .DOC file) and sends it out to a list of recepients it finds in
your address books (.WAB files). The mail's subject is the same
as the title of the .DOC file it uses - it's not the same every time,
(it just so happened that my file was titled "adeia").
Visit the above links for more info. Be wary of similar e-mails because
this worm is spreading fast. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Best regards,
Alex.
