What up all...melting yet? When the sweat is flowing faster than you
can say "ice cream" (mmmmmm that sounds nice right about now...make
mine a mint chocolate chip), you know it's full-blown summertime!!
And that means time to blow out your speakers by tuning into the
sounds of "Best Kept Secret" on Wednesdays 6-8 PM live on CHRY 105.5
FM or in Real Audio at http://www.yorku.ca/chry.
Tomorrow night = jam-packed biznizz!
Lots of guests coming through the studio...let's run it down, shall we?
(1) Straight outta London, UK, via Montreal and Amsterdam, the one
Bougie Soliterre will be representing with her brand of sweet soulful
house grooves. You know the name through her releases off her own
Flipside label and Kerri Chandler's Sfere, as well as remixes on
Naked Music and Wave...dropped one of the nicest albums ever to grace
my crate entitled "Simple Things" earlier this year...and is one of
the sweetest, down-to-earth, intelligent people doing this music
thang. Her set at Una Mas this past Saturday for Shifting Gears
rocked the joint, and had DC and myself shaking our butts until the
janitors swept us off the dancefloor. Not to be missed...
(2) Fresh off a whirlwind schedule that included both the Montreal
and Atlantic Jazz Festivals earlier this month, one of T.O.'s premier
live improvisational house bands Directions will be stepping off the
stage and into our studio to drop some new tracks off their debut
album (watch for a CD release party soon enough!) and talk about why
the world is falling in love with their sound. Let me tell you, the
magic these people create onstage is really something to experience
in person. Lucky for you they will be performing this Saturday at
the Mockingbird (580 King St. West) as part of the monthly Boogiebox
series. Run, run very fast, and don't stop until you're directly in
front of the stage...
(3) For all the hip hop heads who know they're Toronto history,
Thrust is a name that's been all over the radio (early 90s
'Powermove', anyone?), MuchMusic (who can forget his slickness in
'Northern Touch'?), and beyond. This cat's being dropping some
serious ish for over 10 years now, and shows no signs of slowing
down. His latest 12" entitled 'The One and Only' off Blueprint is
getting heavy rotation on all the hip hop radio shows in the
megatropolis...cop it cause it's niiiiiiiice. He'll be dropping by
to chat with us about his upcoming projects and Toronto's steady
climb in dominating hip hop.
Hands....so tired. Throat...damn, gonna need lots of water tomorrow!!
Best Kept Secret...hell no, we can't keep it under wraps forever.
DC and Venus signing off....
Respect
