Hello friends,
Here are some recommended musical events coming up at Fuel, for those of you
in the South Bay/Silicon Valley:
Wednesday August 1st
Young Blood Brass Band
plus Ex-Centric Sound System
Doors 8:30pm / Show 9:30pm / Cover $7.00
The concept of a hip-hop band may seem oxymoronic to most, but YoungBlood
makes it all come together. Brought to the Bay Area by the North Beach Jazz
Festival, Fuel will have the pleasure of hearing a new blend of New Orleans
funk horns, Hip Hop beats, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian rhythms, and an
occasional soulful spoken word. Ex-Centric Sound System: Israeli/Ghanaian
world music, ambient, trip-hop, African-dub ensemble. Founder and band
leader Yossi Fine, the world respected bassist who has toured, played and
recorded extensively with such diverse artists as Stanley Jordan, Lou Reed,
Ruben Blades, David Bowie, and Me'Shelle N'dedeoccello, - has always been
fascinated by the shared origins of African, Latin, Caribbean, and
African-American music. "I've always wanted to mix traditional styles with
the most contemporary sounds and environments, I wanted to create a musical
language that everyone can relate to, and through that, experience the magic
of Africa together with the powerful grooves of today". Ex-Centric Sound
System recorded their debut CD, Electric Voodooland, at Yossi's King
Solomon's Shack studios in Tel Aviv. Released in North America via Loud
Records (the hip-hop label that is the home of such renown multi-million
selling rap artists as Wu-Tang Clan and Goodie Mob), the album is a
multi-cultural set that masterfully ranges from weighty, muscular dub to a
sweetly harmonized anthem, to a lullaby tribute to women raising children in
embattled Rwanda. For more info see www.Youngbloodbrassband.com and

This ought to be an interesting double-bill, and to compound the interest,
yours truly will be DJ'ing before and between bands. :-)
Every Tuesday Night : MONDORAMA
Start 9:00pm / Cover $5.00
Nu Jazz Breaks, Future Afro Latin Funk, Dancehall, Downtempo and Dub.
Friendly Neighborhood Resident DJs: Chris Haycock, El Jefe, & Mark Johns
Special Guests:
July 31st - ROBERT RANKIN (SJ)
August 7th - TOM THUMP, groove merchant, release (SF)
August 14th - DE NADA, el otro mundo, (SJ)
This is a new and very swank DJ night that kicked off two weeks ago with a
special appearance from Bougie Soliterre, and followed up last week with a
superb nujazz set from XLR8R's Tomas Palermo. I strongly urge those of you
in the South Bay to support MONDORAMA, one of the few forward-thinking DJ
weeklies in San Jose. And then of course there's always:
Every Friday Night: THE WEEKEND STARTS HERE
5:00pm-8:30pm / No Cover
Unwind with the jazzadelic grooves of DJ Rocky Rococo. Abstract beats,
international rhythms, and other sounds from the future lounge.
Now who says there's nothing to do in San Jose??? ;-)
