I saw this at Dusty Groove earlier this week and immediately had to get it. This will be my first Lisa Ono album.
What I liked first was the cover, where she is sitting inbetween two Hawaiian guys, just kicking it. Reminds me of all the Hawaiian albums I grew up listening to.
I know what Lisa Ono is about but never bought anything of hers until now. If you go to the Toshiba website, you can hear a RealAudio sample of one of the songs (or click to my site at http://www.hawnmusiccorner.com/news and link from there) or see a quick video. I did not know what to expect, but she does Hawaiian songs in the Brazilian style. I am looking forward to hearing how she covers "Kaimana Hila".
In "Aloha 'Oe", she gets help from Hawaiian singer Teresa Bright, who released last year one of the best Christmas albums I've heard in awhile. She has a jazz upbringing, and the entire album is in jazz mode. I don't think the album was promoted outside of the islands, but for those of you who like good jazz vocals, I would pick that up as well.
Hell, while we're on the subject, go pick up Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom's PU'UHONUA.

I'll post my review of Ono's album as soon as I get it. Has anyone picked up the new Pushim?
>Lisa Ono -- Bossa Hula Nova . . . CD . . . $26.99
>EMI (Japan), 2001
>This lovely Japanese singer does it again! Lisa's recording in a vaguely
>Hawaiian mode -- mixing her usual bossa approach with a slightly
>sunshine-drenched style, less Hawaiian than work by Don Ho, more in a
>"dream" vision of Hawaii, as you might hear in some of the 60s
>production work by Brian Wilson. The floating lyrics of the Hawaiian
>tunes work well with the bossa backing -- and the sweetness of the
>album's a perfect fit for Lisa's voice! Titles include "Manoa", "Swing Time In Honolulu", "Sway It, Hula Girl", "Nani Wai'ale'ale", and "Kaimana Hila". (In a cool cardboard sleeve!)<
