    Cuki Chart and News.
    10.06.01 Week 22

    Heathrow Airport. Terminal One arrivals.
Catch the Piccadilly line back into the city!
This time no Piccadilly Line back into the city.
Just a replacement bus service to Acton town
Welcome back to London town Cukipapa!
Sorry for sounding like a locked groove guys,
but London ain't doing it for me at the mo!

Helsinki on the other hand! Well, we luv ya boots!
This time 5 days with the some mighty fine peeps!
Maybe all that fresh Nordic air, maybe all that sun
light you get in the summer months! But hey, those
    'flowers' were blooming! Ouch indeed!
Well as you know, Cuki not really into the alcohol
thing. But a strange thing happened to me at Kerma
club last Thursday! This the diary of a very naive
    teetotaller!

10.30, arrive at Kerma. One of the best clubs in
Europe, run by DJ Lil' Tony, one of the most
respected DJ's on the circuit. I'm feeling dandy
about being here! The sound system kicks ass!
Maia behind the bar looks as gorgeous as ever!
10.42, Tony introduces me to a guy called Oliver!
Native Finnish we believe but looking and sounding
like he fronts a band called Oasis! This is where it
all goes right or wrong depending on what you feel
    about alcohol!
10.45, my guide and protector for the evening has
arrived. A beautiful Finnish girl called Satu! Hopefully
she'll protect me from the Oasis look alike!
11.00 to 1.30, Oliver feels I will DJ better if I have
one of these small liquorice drinks they drink here!
Not very alcoholic he informs me! I decline on many
    occasions! Cuki in control!
1.30, Cuki lets go! I have one of these small drinks!
It tastes like medicine! Awful! Oliver brings me a glass
of red wine to counter the taste! Even red wine tasted
    good after this!
2.00 I'm playing great records but I'm seeing these
glasses of the liquorice drink appear in the DJ booth!
What do I do! Maybe they will be offended if I refuse!
    I'll just drink them!
2.30, Dennis Coffey sounds great but hey guess what,
this liquorice drink tastes all right too! In fact the four
glasses of red wine and the four liquorice drinks all
taste good too! Where's Satu! Where's my protector!
Boogieing her boots off on the dance floor!
3.30, The liquorice drinks aren't even touching the
side's now! Some of the records seem to be going
round anti clockwise! Satu's still on the dance floor,
Oliver has the biggest grin on his face, Cuki treading
on his records cause he can't put them back in the
    sleeves properly!
4.00, Lil Tony joins me on the dance floor for another
rewind of Pekka Streng's 'In the Garden'! These guys
have no intention of going home! Cuki's lost it!

Well, what can I say! Never been so drunk in my life,
but I have to add, that I also had the time of my life at
the Kerma club last week. Thanks as always to the crew
there, especially the beautiful Maia, without doubt the
best bar person on the planet! Lil Tony as always,
much respect sir! DJ Eppu in attendance too. All my
friends who came down. Sorry if I was outta my box,
    blame that Oli geezer!
Big thanks to Vesa who looked after me for the 5 days!
Feed me, bed me and played America's 'Tin Man' each
morning! What a choice bro! The rest of the 'Leftside
Ensemble', Jussi, who I got to spin alongside at the 'Jump
Inn' bar the following night, back to back Mizell bros
action with Jussi, cool! Sampsa as always, looking after
the lunches and the Pharaoh Sanders gig. Enjoy your
eight week break bro! The main man Henkka! Check
out Henkka's mix on a tasty website outta Helsinki,
    http://mixoftheweek.com/mixes/motw135.html Don't
check out his fridge though, it's empty! Shouts to the
Lifesaver crew too, Sampo, Risto and Marika, check
http://www.lifesaver.net/ one of the best record shops
in Europe. All those beautiful flowers in the Helsinki
garden! Maria, Nanna, the girl with the Evisu tee! The
gorgeous Katja. The one and only Pia, well what can
we say about Pia! Chill ya boots P, you looking great
and we still luv ya boots! To my dear friends Satu &
Aino Kaisa. Thank you for all your love and kindness
over the last five days. Stay strong, be brave, be what
you wanna be. Antti the 45 king! What a selection of
music on the Wednesday night. Antti being one of the
very best collectors of the seven incher. Hannu, the
funkiest kid on the block. Bed, who will no doubt be
enjoying his copy of Mr Hermano's 'Free as the
morning sun'. Some bloke called Anthony from
London! And of course some bloke called Oliver!

Shouts to DJ Stylus outta DC. Ta for the parcel bro.
I'm catching your signature along with the rest of the Seven
Heads crew on the wall at Lifesaver records, Helsinki.

Shouts to the hardest worker on da west side! Daz-I-Kue,
the knob twiddler to the masses at BITAsuite. Bugz as ever
so productive and Daz being rhyme & reason behind so
many great productions from Bugz HQ.

    #### #### This weeks chart (* New Entry) #### ####

    1. New Sector Movements - The Sun (All mixes)(Virgin) 3x12"
It's official! It's all over Jazzanova! Originator of the broken
beat gets the remix treatment from himself, Dwele and Kenny
Dope. Three Slabs of vinyl, three steps to heaven. Some
crew gonna have to come with some tune to topple this
package. First official single form the forthcoming album.

2*. 3 Generations Walking - Slavery Days (Spiritual Life) 12"
SL offer a awesome slice of dub club! Deeper and more
spiritual than anything else about at the mo! Cello's and
violins adding to the haunting narration. Then comes in the
    percussion! Oh my god.

    3. Dapp - First Off (Dub Version)(Omoa) CD-R
Ta to the Recloose for putting this my way. Taken from
excellent sampler doing the rounds with hot new Detroit bizniz!
Hold tight for the sound of Matt's new project along with quality
music from Marc Alphonse and Ayro. Check the website on
    www.omoamusic.com for the lowdown.

    4*. Jon Cutler feat E-Man - It's Your's (Chez) 12"
The bouncy tune! Proper uplifting house music. This tune
cannot fail on the dance floor. Even it's slightly cheesy vocal
feels correct! It's got the pace, it's got the bounce, it's got
the cheesy vocals! It's in the box.

    5. Spacek - Curvatia (Island Blue) 2xLP
If you into the sound of twisted Hip Hop then this is essential.
Ever since we heard the edgy 'Eve' we knew this crew
would come through with a worthy long player. In the shops
    too!

    6. Mr Hermano - Free as the Sun (Disorient) 12"
Gonna be in the box for months this beauty! Ben Mitchell
and Chris Fleming roll on the summer with Nik Weston's
hottest Latin Gospel tip! Santana classic with new school
    respect. Essential purchase.

    7. Espen Horne - Nhu begin'n (Hospital) 12"
What a steal! Those nice peeps at the red door have
decided to include a exclusive track to their 'Out
Patients' sampler. As far as I'm aware, not to be
included on the new album so grab this when and
where you can. Anybody who caught the show in
London will know about this track. Anybody know
    the vocal sample?

    8. The Lost Scrolls of Hamaric - Royal Jelly (Best Seven) 7"
Think I may be a little late on charting this, though has been
in the CD-R case for some time now. Stephan Moerth the
man behind Stereotyp coming with another groovy dubster
for Daniel Best's 'Seven' label. Buy new bass bins now for
    the forthcoming Stereotyp album.

    9. Orange Water - Lo Tek (Archive) 10"
Aka Orin Walters! Nice alias bro! Another
slice of West London broken beat boogie! Volcov's
'Archive' label delivering the message in a Detroit
stylee! Catch Orin at Plastic People (Blueprint Sessions)
and Bar Rhumba (This) in the forthcoming weeks.

10*. Boozoo Bajou - Satta (Stereo Deluxe) 2xLP
BB long player not disappointing! We all know about
the awesome 'Divers' track and some may still be
playing the 'Yoruba Road' track which featured
on a Comet twelve recently. BB take a chilled
    out approach to there music!

    11. Herbert - Bodily Functions (K7) 3xLP
Matty boy lets rip with the next instalment of quirky style
lefties. Dani also adding the incredibly sexy lyric touch!
Anybody wanna argue that she ain't got the best 'come to
bed' voice on the planet! Well, It's another great album,
a great sound and we be looking forwards to playing this
    stuff out!

    12. Bazille Noir - Mister M (Klein) 12"
Part 4 of the 'Sincerely Yours' series. Ta the crew on
Gumpendorfer Street for thrusting this sweet swinging
soundtrack groove in my hands last week. Think Mancini,
Morricone, Quincy, Lalo hanging out in the Flex club!

    13. The Allenko Brotherhood Ensemble - Brotherhood (mixes)(Comet) CD-R
Tony Allen vs Cinematic Orchestra? Manu got his finger
on the pulse regarding getting the right remix for the right
job. Hold tight for the 'percussive' & 'piano' mixes of new
ABE outing soon come. Swinscoe and crew back on
    the block!

    14. AtJazz - Lab Funk (Mantis) 2xLP
No need to introduce this lot! Through out the universe,
known for their polished production and remix skills.
This an excellent album from an excellent outfit
including the classic 'Touch the Sun' and 'Harmony'.

    15. Micatone - Nine songs (No Zession) 2xLP
Got to get the CD as there are only eight songs on the vinyl!
Great album though through the Sonar Kollektiv crew.
Maybe best to describe this as a softer soulful version of
Fauna Flash. Hope I haven't offended anyone!

    16. Bugge Wesseltoft - Moving (Jazzland) 2xLP
Another new concept of Jazz from Bugge and his keyboards
from Norway! This time getting deeper into the spirit.
Couldn't help but think of the Herbert album while listening
to this. Quality cosmic keyboards with a worth while groove.

17*. Riton - Beats Du Jour (Grand Central) 2xLP
Tasty morsel from Manchester. We be digging the B
side for sure! The Herberty 'Hungry Ghost' being our fav.
Nice diverse and original long player.

    18. Kosma - Odessa (Flows mix)(INFRACom) 12"
We going for the flip side with a 60's psycho folksy, jazzy
beat, chilled out strings jobbie! Dedicated to Kosma's
flatmate and defiantly in a Zero 7 style! Ouch!

    19. Kahuun - Batteri (HiFi Terdpi) 12"
Vikings moving in! Eivind Olsvik and the Moussejuus
massive coming with a new label! And what a way to start.
We be thinking Norway's answer to Moodymann with plenty
of bottom end and superb keyboards touching the tops.
Another Norwegian invasion of our shores! This time you
    can have our women!

    20. V/A - Folky (Spectrum Works) 1xLP
Acoustic music in digital times! Awesome collection
of new bizniz from suspects such as Scuba, Zero 7,
Les Gammas, Victor Davis. We also digging such
artists as Otto Lamani and Lief too. Pull up a comfy
chair and leave your dancing shoes in the corner!
    Now in the shops too.

    21. V/A - Out Patients Vol 2 (Hospital) CD-R
Hospital records come with mo goodies in the new instalment
of Out Patients. All new and exclusive and featuring the cream
of today's top production teams. Jazztronik, Swell Session, Les
Gammas, Landslide etc. Even the 'Future Homosapiens'
(remember them) make a long over due visit to our ears!
11 tracks and all pushing the right buttons!

    22. BTO Spider - Destined to stay restless (Spinning Wheel) 12"
Mo quality out Pfarrkirchen. One of my favourite underground
labels hitting the spot again with this soulful percussive roller
with that authentic German feel. Respect to the crew and nice
to catch up with you all in Vienna.

    23. Aardvarck - Spoken (Nubian Mindz mixes)(Rush Hour) 12"
Been shouting about this crew from Holland for some
time now and 'Oh my god' Colin Lindo aka 'Nubian
Mindz' from the Archive, Reinforced camps comes with
two blinding remixes. One Detroit house creamer and one
absolute no buts 'broken beater' belter. Look out for the
finished copy which will come with Domu bizniz!

    24. Square One - Mugshot (Hajime Yoshizawa mix)(Freerange) 12"
Jamie got the boys on the remix tip! This time Hajime
Yoshizawa on duty for this forthcoming twelve. Hajime
as you now the ivory tickler for the Kyoto Jazz Massive
and recording artist for the Especial label.

    25. V/A - Le Nouveau du Jazz (Irma) 2xLP
We checking this for two tasty exclusives from two tasty
producers! Dem being the 'Recloose' and the 'Domu'
As always, Matt and Dominic taking it to the edge of the
envelope. Pushing even more boundaries and taking
21st music by the scruff of its neck! Album also
containing remix pressure past from Ian O'Brien and the
Volcov for Soul Drummers and Space Clique.

    26. Stereotyp meets Tikiman - Jahman (G-Stone) 12"
This kid bordering on genius! Those of you who got off on
the remix for Juryman's 'Ethiopian' track need to get ready
for this. A dark Viennese dubster for sure! We got to meet
the man and were awaiting a timebomb of a album.

    27. Natures Plan - Smile (Solaria) 12"
Number 5 on the excellent Solaria imprint, respect to SS.
This time Mark Mac (4 Hero) teams up with Azymuth hero's
Jose Bertrami & Ivan Conti for another contender for summer
song! There's even a broken beat mix on the flip for the headz

    28. Block 16 - Find an Oasis (Nuphonic) CD-R
Suckaz for the strings, hold on to your arm chairs!
This gonna Bunson burn ya! Jhelisa returns with
the voice over but the orchestration and the bossa
groove killing us ever so slowly. Fug quiet things
down with a solid remix too.

    29. Kyoto Jazz Massive - Eclipse (Afronaught remixes)(Compost) 12"
Forthcoming twelve from Munich via the land of the
rising sun. A little detour on the way to North Acton
were O-Dawg or Orange Water as he is now known, hot
of the heels of 'Transcend Me' gets to grips with a
Okino Bros classic. We digging the new track too.

    30. Nicole Conte - Forma 2000 (Les Gammas remix)(?) CD-R
Dem boys on a roll! Les Gammas come with the lick
on this tasty jazz come soundtrack monster. Right now,
Les Gammas the most prolific and productive of the
European crews and top tip from da Cuki, do not pass
any mix or any release from them.

    #### #### Coffee Compliment #### ####

    Walt Dickerson - Unity
    Chiaroscuro CR 2011(1978)
Originally recorded March 6th 1964 though this copy

Always bugged out for the flip side (High Moon) which
reminds me of Sun Ra. Two drummers (Edgar Bateman
& Andrew Cyrille) driving the beat in all directions! Walt's
fine vibes bringing harmony to the whole arrangement.
George Tucker on Bass and Walter Davis Jr on Piano
making up the rest of the crew. A journey at 17.40, but a
    interesting and enjoyable one. Seek
