Did everyone apart from know this apart from me?

Corduroy have split up ! Im gutted, which is an
understatement. If anyone has ever seen their live
performances, I cant truely say that this bunch made
superb music and gave amazing live performances to
boot ! No longer will I be able to get down with
    Corduroy..... sob .....

Its a real shame that they have gone their separate
ways, and its an even bigger loss to the Acid Jazz
    world.

What was everyone else's take on their music and their
(blinding) gigs, just out of interest?

    John.

p.s. I have included the press release from their
    website below.

    ============================================
This is a belated letter to anyone interested in the
band CORDUROY, from founder member Ben Addison.

First, the band has split up. I apologise for there
being no news for such a long time, but when Big Cat
Records (our last label), were dropped from V2, we
were all a little dumbfounded. Scott, Simon, Richard
    and myself drifted apart.

I think the process began while we were recording
'Clik!', the last album. Rob Playford's recording
techniques were an echo of a two year period before
CORDUROY, when Scott and I were working with a
    computer and sampler.

This for me was very inspirational and made certain
ideas for the album obsolete. More interested in
instrumentals now, I was very keen in making different
arrangements and for the tunes to be longer.

There was pressure after seven months of work to write
more material, to ensure the best selection for the
record. This was when we realised we all wanted a
different result, and the label needed it pretty
    quickly.

Having finished, we set about rehearsing for live
promotion. I bought an ADAT player, convinced that the
shows would need it. Rehearsing was not as tough as I
had thought and in April/June '99 we did five shows
ending at the Embassy Rooms, London. This was the last
CORDUROY show. I think we all enjoyed these gigs - the
audiences did and we were all set to do more through
the autumn, when we heard the label had been dropped.

I hear that Richard is forming a band, Simon is
working in the clothing industry, Scott has been
studying computer programming and I have been
releasing through UNIQUE Records in Germany as BEN
    HUMAN.

We have also done a deal with SANCTUARY Records, who
are re-releasing just about everything we ever did,
including un-released tracks and a Japanese live
album. These I feel will make up the definitive
collection, as Dean Rudland (ACID JAZZ Records),
Martin Bartlett (Management) and myself have been
involved with the project from the start.

As you may know CORDUROY started as a non-serious,
profit-making, one-off gig concept. After five albums
maybe things had run their natural course, but through
visiting this site and the links to others good music
    will always be available.
