    24.06.01 Week 23

Compost is 100. Yep, one hundred fine releases from
Michael and the crew. And we look forward to another
one hundred fine releases in future years! Compost has
always been one of those labels that defy category.
Always looking to inspire, educate, inform the listener.
Music has no boundaries, no limits. Feet and mind
alike have a good time. Exploration is the key to
fulfilment and success in life. The exploration and
diversity that this label shows is nothing short of inspiring.
Q: So where do you put a Compost release?
A: In the Compost section mate!
Respect and Hats off to all the crew for the 100.

Shouts to Cypreen and the Higher ground crew on Solar
radio. A 'Higher Ground' a new show on Solar radio
The world's only station playing jazz, funk and soul on Sky
digital radio channel and across the world on the internet
www.solarradio.com The first Sunday of each month.
12 midday till 2 o'clock: It is currently being syndicated
worldwide from London's Solar Radio via the Sky Digital
    network (ch.879) Check it!

Saturday night bizniz at the Charterhouse joint on the east
side with my big bro aka the Prankster's very own MK Ultra.
Thanks to the man who spends more money on his hair in a
month then I do on records in a year! Playing back to back
wit da MK is always a thrill. Look out at the Charterhouse on
Saturdays for nuff underground players spinning some
    gorgeous grooves. Junior enjoying himself.

Shouts to Andreas Saag aka Swell Session. 'On it' at just 20
years of age! One of our favourite twelve's of recent months
being that great first edition on Hollow records. Remember
'The music in her eyes'! Wow, what a tune and still sounding
great at 'Granny'. Look out for a new twelve from the Swell
Session crew in the forthcoming weeks, and check remixes
for Shur-i-ken and some exclusivity for the Hospital 'Out
    Patients' Vol 2 album.

To Aurelie, my dear friend from Australia coming
    back to Europe. :)
And finally to 'RJK' for the funtabulous parcel.
    I love your boots!

    #### #### This weeks chart (* New Entry) #### ####

    1. New Sector Movements - Download This (Virgin) 3xLP
The vinyl album arrives! All the music IG has ever listened
to comes through on this extraordinary piece of work. Album
of the year already. 12 tracks, stunning, breathtaking, Nothing
you have ever heard before sounds like this. Hold tight for
early July release. Till then, get all the remixes on the 3x12"
Dwele, Kenny Dope and IG's own remix. Outtasight!

    2*. Kaidi Tatham - Betcha (Landslide remix)(Bitasweet) CD-R
Kaidi gets the two step maestro remix treatment! Tim Land
aka the Landslide, adding his touch to a west London anthem.
Two blinding rubs, lets hope both make the final twelve.

    3. Mr Hermano - Free as the Sun (Disorient) CD-R & 12"
Gonna be in the box for months this beauty! Ben Mitchell
and Chris Fleming roll on the summer with Nik Weston's
hottest Latin Gospel tip! The album living up to all that has
been heard on the new single. Excellent.

    4*. Bilal - Love Poems (Interscope) CD-R
My favourite track from the forthcoming Bilal album outta
Philadelphia. Album now scheduled for July release! Not
bad since it was supposed to be in the stores in January
then March. Bilal as you know featured on the Common
    album. A big talent.

    5. Three Generations Walking - Slavery Days (Spiritual Life) 12"
SL offer a awesome slice of dub club! Deeper and more
spiritual than anything else about at the mo! Cello's and
violins adding to the haunting narration. Then comes in the
percussion! Oh my god. Nik still not on the bus with this on!

    6*. Block 16 - Morning Sun (Nuphonic) 2xLP &12"
New Block 16 album and twelve in the box! Jon Lucien, Jhelisa,
Bim Sherman, Robert Owens all adding their sound to a quality
album. The twelve (Find an Oasis) having some dope remixes
from the Rollercone and Fug crews!

7*. Nathan Haines - Wonderful things (Chilli Funk) 12"
Third twelve from the amazing 'Sound travels' album and the
A side containing that track along with a new rub! We really into
the B side with an instrumental version of Wonderful things!
Spiritual stuff from Nathan as always.

    8. Truby Trio - High Jazz (K7) 12"
This we think lifted from the forthcoming DJ Kicks series for
the 'on it' K7 label. Rainer and the guys deliver the exclusive
track from their forthcoming musical journey. A slight diversion
from the more percussive trips on Compost. This extremely
    soulful excursion from the boys.

9*. Human Resources - Paradigm EP (Spinning Wheel) 12"
Brand new collective snapped up by the personnel department
at Spinning Wheel. And as always the crew realising state of
the art sonics when they hear them. Twisted two step to
atmospheric broken beats, this EP covering it all.

    10*. Wagon Cooking - Mare (Appetisers) 12"
Number two on this new label! Certainly wetting the appetite!
Super tight production on this groovy little twelve. Do try and
locate the first twelve too! Big tune for Pat Forge and Rainer
    Truby.

    11. Cleveland Watkiss - It's only Sweat (Touchdown) CD
Slighty above average album but whooooo what a killa
track in 'It's only sweat'. Cleveland roughing it up like the
good ol' days with Outside and Project 23!

12*. Nepa Allstars - The Way (Surplus) 12"
New label on the Nu jazz tip! Attica Blues boys bringing
this to ya we think! As always with this crew, futuristic but
soulful with two tablespoons of 'roughness' added! Do
check out the excellent 'Blueprint Sessions' at Plastic
People EC2 each and every Friday night for the same
    recipe.

    13. Dapp - First Off (Dub Version)(Omoa) CD-R
Ta to the Recloose for putting this my way. Taken from
excellent sampler doing the rounds with hot new Detroit bizniz!
Hold tight for the sound of Matt's new project along with quality
music from Marc Alphonse and Ayro. Check the website on
    www.omoamusic.com for the lowdown.

    14*. Herbert - Suddenly (mixes)(K7) 12"
From the excellent Bodily Functions album! This time
we get Oizo Non, Takemura and Matts own Redub on
    the remix package!

    15*. Nitin Sawhney - Sunset (mixes)(V2) 2x12"
Probably one of the first to get the CD-R's of these mixes but
one of the last to receive the promo vinyl! Well, finally got one
and the London Elektricity and KV5 mixes still shake my boots!
MJ Cole and J-Walk adding to the remix package!

    16. Still Phil - Bey Un Bey (MKL vs Soy Sos mix)(Natural Resource) 12"
One of my favourite remix crews, the MKL vs Soy Sos get to
grips with this track. The deep cellist mix so off the wall. Real
lefty house music! We getting into the Kiko mix too with its
    sensuous guitars and tings.

    17. Bazille Noir - Mister M (Klein) 12"
Part 4 of the 'Sincerely Yours' series. Ta the crew on
Gumpendorfer Street for thrusting this sweet swinging
soundtrack groove in my hands. Think Mancini,
Morricone, Quincy, Lalo hanging out in the Flex club!

    18. Lucy Pearl - Without You (Dwele remix)(Virgin) 12"
That man Dwele back with a warm and soothing remix
featuring another Detriot star in the making, Mr Phat Kat.
As always with the Dwelogy, spaced out Rhodes and
    keys adding to the trip.

    19. Tony Allen vs Cinematic Orchestra - Brotherhood (mixes)(Comet) CD-R
The Allenko Brotherhood Ensemble! Manu got his finger
on the pulse regarding getting the right remix for the right
job. Hold tight for the 'percussive' & 'piano' mixes of new
ABE outing soon come. Swinscoe and crew back on
    the block!

    20. Boozoo Bajou - Satta (Stereo Deluxe) 2xLP
BB long player not disappointing! We all know about
the awesome 'Divers' track and some may still be
playing the 'Yoruba Road' track which featured
on a Comet twelve recently. BB take a chilled
out approach to their music! Chillin' dare boots
    you could say.

    21. Jon Cutler feat E-Man - It's Your's (Chez) 12"
The bouncy tune! Proper uplifting house music. This tune
cannot fail on the dance floor. Even it's slightly cheesy vocal
feels correct! It's got the pace, it's got the bounce, it's got
the cheesy vocals! It's in the box.

    22. Cosmic Village - Mixt Generation (For Life) CD
New long player from Japan with 6 original compositions and
4 remixes from the Jazztronik, Recloose, Flytronix and Mustang
crews. Tight production and arrangements as ever with this
    classy Japanese crew.

    23. Spacek - Curvatia (Island Blue) 2xLP
If you into the sound of twisted Hip Hop then this is essential.
Ever since we heard the edgy 'Eve' we knew this crew
would come through with a worthy long player. In the shops
    too!

    24. Espen Horne - Nhu begin'n (Hospital) 12"
What a steal! Those nice peeps at the red door have
decided to include a exclusive track to their 'Out
Patients' sampler. As far as I'm aware, not to be
included on the new album so grab this when and
where you can. Anybody who caught the show in
London will know about this track.

    25. The Lost Scrolls of Hamaric - Royal Jelly (Best Seven) 7"
Stephan Moerth the man behind Stereotyp coming with
another groovy dubster for Daniel Best's 'Seven' label.
Buy new bass bins now for the forthcoming Stereotyp
    album.

    26. Orange Water - Lo Tek (Archive) 10"
Aka Orin Walters! Nice alias bro! Another
slice of West London broken beat boogie! Volcov's
'Archive' label delivering the message in a Detroit
    stylee!

    27. AtJazz - Lab Funk (Mantis) 2xLP
No need to introduce this lot! Through out the universe,
known for their polished production and remix skills.
This an excellent album from an excellent outfit
including the classic 'Touch the Sun' and 'Harmony'.
Is this in the shops yet!

    28. Riton - Beats Du Jour (Grand Central) 2xLP
Tasty morsel from Manchester. We be digging the D
side for sure! The Herberty 'Hungry Ghost' being our fav.
Nice diverse and original long player.

    29. V/A - Out Patients Vol 2 (Hospital) CD-R
Hospital records come with mo goodies in the new instalment
of Out Patients. All new and exclusive and featuring the cream
of today's top production teams. Jazztronik, Swell Session, Les
Gammas, Landslide etc. Even the 'Future Homosapiens'
(remember them) make a long over due visit to our ears!
11 tracks and all pushing the right buttons!

    30. V/A - Le Nouveau du Jazz (Irma) 2xLP
We checking this for two tasty exclusives from two tasty
producers! Dem being the 'Recloose' and the 'Domu'
As always, Matt and Dominic taking it to the edge of the
envelope. Pushing even more boundaries and taking
21st music by the scruff of its neck! Album also
containing remix pressure past from Ian O'Brien and
the Volcov for Soul Drummers and Space Clique.

    #### #### Coffee Compliment #### ####

    Morgana King - New beginnings
    Paramount PAS 6067 (197?)
Classic singer delivering great covers of songs like 'You
are the sunshine of my life' and 'Like a Seed'. Stevie
Wonder actually quoting on the sleeve notes that Morgana
gives the best ever cover of his song! Those who got off on
Espen Hornes 'Nhu begin'n' need to check out 'We could be
flying' a great cover of a Michael Colombier track way back
when. All in all, a very solid album from a very underrated singer.

'There's a feel that comes in the Spring
A touch of hope, a new beginning
    Time's racing by I know
But as it crossed my mind
I thought we all would end up winning
Love is rising with the summer sun
Caught in the silence of hello
Rolling the words across the sky'
