Big props to the list yet again... The spacek album
recently fell out of the sky and in to my lap, and I
wholeheartedly agree. Some very nice hip hop/R'n'B-ish
grooves with ultra crisp/crunchy snares, which is a sound
I'm really digging right now (like on the Nortec stuff).
    'Getaway' is a gorgeous track.

I also just picked up the Brazil EP, and again, was not
disappointed. Sambassim is killer, but much like other
listees, i'm really enjoying Carnaval as well. Of course,
now i'll definately have to shell out for the second in the
    series...

In other news, Cinematic Orchestra just played here last
night sans J Swinscoe. It was pretty much exactly what I
expected, so in a sense, i'm a little disappointed. It
felt a bit like i was in a seedy, smoky jazz club from the
late 60's, but the band definately had a good, mellow
groove going, and some more free jazz/improv moments (not
exactly dancin' music, but that was OK). I was hoping to
hear Channel 1 suite live, but 'twas not to be.

Guelph natives "The New Deal" played the day before C.O.,
and if you're into house grooves and jam bands, I highly
recommend going out to see this bass/drums/keys trio.
    http://www.mofunk.com/Artists/NewDeal/bio.htm) They played
two electrifying sets of completely improvised house
grooves and breakbeats. I've long been a fan of Jamie
shields' keyboard prowess, and the drummer made me tired
just by looking at him - So energetic!

Speaking of house, I just got the 'Every Day' 12" by
Central Living on Naked Music, and it's awesome. If you
enjoyed Petalpusher's 'Breakin' it Down' and Lisa Shaw's
'Always', you'll love this 12" as well. Dave Warrin
(ex-Slide Five, is that right?) teams up with Lisa Shaw.
The crazy penis remix is especially satisfying, and the
boogie soliterre mix is damn good, too. (hear it at
    http://www.naked-music.com/ or groovetech)

Also picked up Zero 7's full length, so let me add my voice
to the growing chorus of approval. I've been waiting for
this ever since i heard the haunting sounds of 'Likufanele'
on Chocalate City a year or so ago.

Currently trying to make my mind up about the new DJ Krush,
and patiently awaiting for my At Jazz order to arrive...
