_Gambler's Life_ just got reissued, & it might be even better. I'm
also partial to _Forever Taurus_, but it breaks a lot of folks'
cheez-threshold, seems.
Important to remember that _Gears_ & _GL_ are more Mizell Bros.
records than anything else-- check out the _Sky High_ UK comp, or
Donald Byrd's mid-seventies output (_Black Byrd_, _Street Lady_ &
_Places & Spaces_, _Steppin' Into Tomorrow_). They also produced
Bobbi Humphreys, Gary Bartz, L.T.D., & of course A Taste of Honey.
Granted, "Boogie Oogie Oogie" is past their prime; their high water
marks were all more proto-disco-- a nice spacey jazz-funk blend that
reminds me a lot of Dexter Wansel, for instance.
