Another album I bought yesterday was Rae & Christian's new release called
"Sleepwalking". I loved "Northern Sulphuric Soul", so I was anxious to hear
their new album. I wasn't disappointed. There are some gerat tracks on it:
"Not Just Anybody" feat. Kate Rogers, "Vai Viver A Vida" feat. Tania Maria
(I think I know the tune from elsewhere, but the credits seem to indicate
that it was orginally written for this album), and the two Bobby Womack
tracks (although I like "Wake Up Everybody" more than "Get A Life"). But
there's one problem with that album: The big picture is missing. I often
find it that producer's albums rather seem to be a compilation of tracks
than a homogenic work. There are exceptions, of course. For example,
Thievery Corporation's "Mirror Conspiracy". And "Northern Sulphuric Soul"
was more homegenic, too. Personally, on "Sleepwalking" I don't like The
Pharcyde tracks that much (I am very fond of hearing raps, but not that west
coast style) and I find the singing voice of The Congos on "Hold Us Down"
quite annoying.
However, the remaining tracks are great. If you don't mind that there seems
to be a lack of an overall (let's call it) "vision" and you're into trippy
beats and emotional vocals it's a must.
