hey there everyone,
It's been a little while since my last event-info mailout, over a month
in fact! I've been in and out of town a fair bit, with some
soul-replentishing holiday time in there :-), and took on a few less
gigs for February. Now we're rolling into March and April (please let it
get warmer, please!!), and activities, at least, are heating up. Make
yourselves comfy in front on the 'puter and read on 'cause there's lots
of details about upcoming gigs, including tomorrow night's 52 Inc. jam
at Roxy Blu (details on ticket giveaways below)
On the radio front, props to all who listen to and support 'Mental
Chatter,' my show heard Mondays 11am-2pm on CKLN 88.1fm. Lots of you may
want to know about some excellent new upgrades to the CKLN site. Thanks
to Preet, web- designer and host of 'Frequency Adjustments, playlists
for shows are now automatically put up on the site within 24 hours.
So...for those who've been requesting Mental Chatter playlists faster
than I have the time to provide'em, look no further than:
http://ckln.sac.ryerson.ca/html/chart/logdb/pl_3.html
These Mental Chatter playlists will not include details on guests and
Picks of the Week, so if you're looking for those tidbits, watch for my
e-mailings of those (let me know you want them if you haven't) or follow
this link:

Finally on this front, tune in to CKLN all next week for special
programming in honour of International Women's Day. This Monday, March
5th, I'll be programming three solid hours of women producers and
musicians
creating underground sounds. Special features include an interview with
dancer, singer, songwriter and clothing designer Wunmi, a former member
of Soul II Soul and current collaborator with Masters at Work and
others. Also, an exclusive Canadian sneak peak at advance tracks from No
Gravity, the forthcoming album by L.A. producer-songwriter The Angel of
60 Channels and Jaz Klash fame. Tune in live, either by hitting 88.1FM
in the Toronto area, or via Real Audio and Shoutcast feeds linked from
the main CKLN site: http://ckln.sac.ryerson.ca
Writing wise, I've been continuing to speak with and write 'bout lots of
folks for my 'Extended Play' column in Eye weekly. In the past month or
so, I've featured: Ninja Tune/N-Tone's Fink (Jan. 25 issue), Wunmi (Feb.
1), T.O. house producer and man behind "El Ray," Noël Nanton of DNH
records (Feb. 8), talented and deep T.O. jungle DJ Medicine Muffin (Feb.
15), U.K. club chameleon and man with exquisite taste Ashley Beedle
(Feb. 22) and Toronto underground scene-builders Paul E. Lopes and Mike
Tull (today's issue, on streets now). For these articles, plus the
'Beats Per Week' club listings, check out www.eye.net and browse through
the issue you're looking for (all archived and sorted by date).
Also check the brand new ish of Exclaim magazine (www.exclaim.ca) for a
piece I've done on Rae & Christian and their soulful new album
Sleepwalking (Grand Central/K7), a feature review of Fauna Flash and
their wicked new Fusion (Compost), plus all kinds of other Exclaim
goodies.
Onto the club gigs. Don't forget to check out Glide Wednesdays, every
single week at Gypsy Co-op, where Andrew Allsgood and I throw down nu
jazz, dub, downtempo, deep house, beats, soulful abstract grooves and a
whole lot more. Thanks to all who love good, wide-open sounds and
support mid-week activities. You've kept Glide going for four years
now!! The last coupla weeks have been really fun and amazing... watch
here for details of some interesting and innovative special gigs coming
up soon.
