Satellite (NYC) is great IF you buy in the store. I haven't found a
better-stocked vinyl store in the US (maybe Amoeba in SF compares.) But
since it is a popular store, they have a lot of customer traffic and their
in-store vinyl definitely gets pawed badly. I make sure to buy clean
copies and ONLY in store.
I've always wondered what someone could do if they really went at this
market (dance vinyl retailing) with some serious cash. The market is so
fragmented, and in general unprofessional. Small shops, mom'n'pop
operations, etc. I think that the margins and the volume aren't enough to
get anyone with deep pockets interested ;P which may be just as well. We
end up with a mish-mash of services, variable quality, etc. etc.
On the other hand, I'm a very satisfied GrooveDis customer- great service,
great prices, good selection.
