Sometime last year I came across a DJ Vadim remix of somebody called
Supersoul on the Miami imprint Soma-Rasa. Being a HUGE Ninja Tune fan, I
mail ordered it immediately. Unfortunately, the DJ Vadim remix sucks!
The good thing, however, is that I discovered Supersoul. If you can still
track down the first release (CAT #:MX108)please do so -- I mailed ordered
my copy from PJ @ Skimo (skimomusic@home.com). You'll be in store for some
really sweet downtempo dub with crispy clean breaks and really tight
production in the three tracks: Sleepwalker, Soma-Rasa and Krsnaloka...but
    please skip the Vadim altogether!

His second release was even better (Cat#: MX1108) with four ambient ladden
downtempo breakbeats with a touch of some old school Fax synth lines thrown
in for good measure. There are no remixes on this 12" and Supersoul is
really able to showcase his multifaceted talents. I'm not crazy about the
rap style on top of the "Supernatural" track, but thankfully he included the
instrumental on the flip side. I really like to mix some of the older
Thievery Corporation stuff with this song because they both have the same
    mood, feel and tempo. Nice...

Then finally last week during WMC I got a double dose of Supersoul as I met
him in person (his name is Omar) and he handed me a promo of his new 12"
compilation (Cat #: MX2108 -- I don't get how he is numbering these...). It
has another incredible dubbed out dark track called "Feel the Cold" and a
track called "10-9 Volts" by Canadian producer Calamalka. I was actually
lucky enough to hear him spin at the Infiltrate 3.0 party -- which was SICK
BTW, but that's another entire post altogether. On the flip side it has a
gorgeous spacey Push Button Objects remix of another Supersoul track called
"Klinga" (I've never heard the original though) and two other chill tracks.
This should be out soon...you don't want to miss it, especially all you PBO
fans out there. When I spoke to him he told me that he just finished
remixing Jake Mandell for another Miami label called "Etihad". I don't have
much info on this but according to Omar it's gonna blow up really BIG! So
Jake Mandell fans keep an ear out for this new release and if you can track
down the rest of Supersoul's stuff -- it's really worth it.

    Take care everybody,

    Pedro Cevallos
