Miles himself mentioned in his autobiography, that he turned his back to the audience and didn't talk in between songs or introduce the band, because he felt that the music should do all the talking. Great book.

A lot of people say (including Miles' keyboard player) say Miles turned his
back to the audience so he could better cue the rest of his band...
