    OBSERVATIONS & RESEARCH
    -------------------------------------------
    DJ Teebee-Travel in Silence EP-Subtitles
From a secret ice fortress, hidden somewhere in the fjords of Norway,
Torgeir Byrkines (aka DJ Teebee) issues forth a never-ending storm of
crisp drum attacks and glacial basswaves. The frequent releases from
his own Subtitles imprint (run with fellow Norwegian K) and past
recordings on Audio Couture [Moving Shadow sublabel], Juice, Rugged
Vinyl & Certificate 18 have been remarkably consistent in their
depth, complexity and the ability to maintain a dancefloor edge
without sacrificing musical integrity. The "Traveling in Silence EP"
is no exception. "April Dawn" takes us straight to the dancefloor
with another stab at RnB vs DnB; complete with an over the top diva
cresting over cruel sub-bass and crashing drums. On the flip, the
title cut locks into a more subdued but dark groove, with all of the
driving minimalism that its name suggests. "Blue Rose" nicely
references Moby's "Go" synth line, coming to fruition with an eerie
synth progression. Finally the incredible "Touched by God", leading
off with brushed drums and vibraphone/piano elements ala Modern Jazz
Quartet, drops into Teebee's signature ruffness topped off with
    wicked arpeggios and ethereal flutes.
