Talking about the Ken Burns documentary. It finally started showing on
Mexican TV a couple of weeks ago. Before the first episode, the (talk)
show just before it (on the same network) was a special episode on Mexican
Jazz, including the opinion of historians, musicians, artists and critics,
plus live performances from some national bands. At one point, they
criticized Ken Burns documentary for dismissing Latin American
contribution to the development of Jazz. As they told it, Mexican history
of Jazz is almost as long as American, and even if its contribution to
larger currents in Jazz is not major, Cuban influence in this respect is
unquestionable. Food for thought.
