the best dancehall resource has to be
http://reggaesource.com
they get their stuff straight from the only US distributor of dancehall
called Music Ambassador in NYC.
VP is trying to distribute but they are mainly doing compilations and
represses and they aren't quick enough to get new releases.
for online radio the most progressive out right now is
http://downsoundrecords.com put on by my man Afflicted
of afflictedyard.com
seriously though,
underground? hardcore? tech?
dancehall is really all of that...except most of it right now is mimicing
everything that is on BET. BET is about 2 years old in Jamaica and all of
the artists are trying to either emulate or get on the albums of the
jiggiest of jiggiest of artists. Either that or score a hit like Shaggy.
i'd recommend Elephant Man as well except his themes may not be
"underground" or "techy" enough...
try the stuff coming out of Toronto or the UK for the obscure non jiggy
themes.
you'd be surprised but Beenie Man has some songs that would have you
bouncing off walls...
the problem is not enough selectors out there know their tunes and riddims.
Hot riddim for me right now is The Liquid.
