hey there everyone,
A very quick reminder about tonight's special glide event, and a very
Play-ful one at that. I'll be back at'cha early next week with a full
e-newsletter. 'til then.... enjoy the relative brevity of this one ;-)
glide NOVEMBER 2001 sessions
Wednesdays at Gypsy, 817 Queen St. W., Toronto
no cover
resident DJ's
DENISE BENSON (CKLN 'Mental Chatter, www.beats.to) +
ANDREW ALLSGOOD
blend nu jazz. dub. broken beat. house. deep sweet grooves
alongside the following special guests:
tonight!!
NOVEMBER 28: DJ/producers STEVE YANKO and MARC de BREYNE bring their
full-on deep and funky house flavours into the mix. Both record for Play
Records. Check Marc's beautiful debut album Electropical and Steve's
killer 12" "Fever," currently blowing up dancefloors.
We also celebrate the release of Play Records' beautiful new mix CD
Floorplay 2: Household Names with an advance listen, from 9:30-10:30pm.
I've been way impressed with this collection, which gathers local,
national and international house heads and moves from lush and deep
vocal pieces to more sparse tech-house flavours, some dubby and broken
business and more. One of my fave house collections of the year, hands
down. Come out early tonight to hear the CD in full, and look for it in
shops near you!

and, a very special guest I'm honoured to bring to town:
WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 5: NYC producer and DJ Nickodemus makes his Toronto
debut! I'm totally hyped about this one as he's someone who I've admired
and appreciated for some time. A brief bio follows. $ 8 at the door for
this one.
Nickodemus is a renaissance man who looks to the past to create earthy,
forward-looking grooves. As a DJ, he was resident at Giant Step NYC for
four years, and currently plays regularly in Vienna, Puerto Rico, and as
the decks ën effects manipulator in jazz percussionist Mino Cineluís
four-piece fusion ensemble. Nick also runs ëtings, with partner Mariano,
at Turntables On the Hudson, hugely popular pier parties that have
spawned a series of compilation CDís for their own RhythmLove Records.
Turntables on the Hudson 3 is a stunning collection of original dub,
beats, Latin + global grooves, dancefloor jazz and more. Essential, as
is Nickodemusí production work with Osiris, including their saxy,
Afro-Latin underground dancefloor smash "Free Souls" and remix of the
Latin Projectís "En Fuego" (both on Giant Step). His Toronto debut is
not to be missed! www.turntablesonthehudson.com www.rhythmlove.com
Thanks for reading 'n being on this e-list everyone. To add, alter or be
removed, simply send me a note. Take care!
