Actually, with that said, maybe it wasn't such a bad year for hip hop. I
really do like this Beat Generation series, and the Cannibal Ox record is
absolutely killer.

yeah, I'd have to agree about the Ninjas, too. I LOVE the Solid Steel
Presents DJ Food & DK mix CD. That whole Cinematic Orchestra Vs. Jeru The
Damaja mix on track 2 is wicked, and I love the "Mirror In The Bathroom" mix
into jungle. And the Mr. Scruff Vs. DJ Vadim/Moshun Man mix is outstanding.
Dare I say it, but I think I like this mix better than Product Placement.
Other than this release, it has been a quiet year for the Ninjas. There was
a time when I'd buy first and listen later because I just knew that the
Ninja logo was a symbol of consistent headphone-blowing beat nastiness. But
lately, I'm more cautious (damn recession?). While I do like the Roots
Manuva album, it's not one for the ages. And I really was disappointed with
that Coldcut single, and the albums by Neotropic, Antibalas, Fink, and Up
Bustle & Out. Where are the Herbaliser and Mr. Scruff when you need them
the most? I have a feeling it's uphill from here on out through 2002.
And nice renovation on the ninjatune.net website.
Peace,
Ha
