You may think that but I have the same problem you have multiplied
several times over. I have to order records for the company many times
without a promo. Unheard. Just going over the one sheet or my supplier's
descriptions. And I'm buying a lot of copies in the hopes that it will
be good. In the previous message I was talking about in my personal
life, but buying for the business can be just as bad or worse. It is
true I/we get a lot of promos, which does make the job easier, but the
records we get promos of are in the distinct minority of what we carry.
And once again, just so I'm clear I have no problem with people trading
snippets of songs or low quality (real audio and the like) versions of
tracks (the labels themselves may..but not me). I just don't like it
when people start trading CDRs and 128k MP3 versions of songs. Most of
the time I don't think they inspire people to buy the record, but rather
they replace having to buy the record.

And we strive to make it easier for the "normal guy" to at least know
what's coming out and basically what it sounds like with our weekly
lists. Unfortunately time and money constraints stop us from putting
sound samples up of everything but we at least try and let people know
what's going on. And the list we post is basically the same list the
stores buy from us use to decide what to buy.

    'Nuff said.

Its pretty easy to say this when your the president of a music
    distribution
business. Is it just me, or has 2001 been a very prolific year in
    (good)releases.
For the normal guy not getting promos and stuff, its pretty hard keeping
    up
-let alone finding the stuff. Thats why I got no problems with
    trading/mp3s.

It was also a helluva lot easier to pick up a
    >record on a hunch when it only cost $7 or so. I took a lot of chances
