We tried to hook up an interview with the Truby Trio for tonight's
program to tie in with their Joypad show on Thursday, but tight
schedules wouldn't permit it. However, we have the next best thing:
an exclusive 60 minute mix that was done for Studio K7 and very
different from their recent DJ Kicks release. It's a strong ten-song
set that features some recent favorites alongside some more obscure
tracks. If you can't hear it live, be sure to check the archives next
week. For those of you in the Bay Area, be sure to listen for your
chance to win tickets for the show!
As is usually the case, I send this e-mail out on Monday evenings and
wind up with more new releases right before air time. Last week's
late additions included the newest entry in the always excellent
Future Sounds Of Jazz series (Vol. 8), containing a slew of exclusive
cuts from Atjazz, Kaos and Soulpatrol, next to remixed tunes from
Attica Blues, The Underwolves, Shawn Lee and others that have never
appeared before on CD.
The new Mo' Horizions album, "Remember Tomorrow" is a slammin' disc
of bossa jazz and silky grooves that will no doubt make my best of
'01 list. Other new arrivals include Bebel Gilberto's "Tanto Tempo"
remix album with contributions from 4 Hero, King Britt, Peter Kruder
and Rae & Christian, Rae & Christian's "Another Late Night" mix disc
and the new Interfearence album, "Take That Train" on Ubuquity -
another winner.
Astralwerks has just released "Expo 2000" by Kraftwerk, but instead
of just reissuing the import tracks, they've added at least four
versions that you haven't heard before. Ironically, we went out to
dinner tonight and out waiter was wearing an Expo 2000 T-shirt.
Clint: where do I get one? Also on Astralwerks: the Kings Of
Convenience "Versus" CD that collects remixes by and collaborations
with Riton, Ladytron, Four Tet, Royksopp (are these folks everywhere
lately, or what?) and others.
Finally, one of the members of a music list that I subscribe to
recommended an album by Philip Cohran & The Artistic Heritage
Ensemble and based on its description and a few brief song snippets,
I decided to buy a copy. Recorded in 1967-68, the music is a vibrant
blend of jazz and Afrobeat, highlighted by Cohran's hand-built
frankiphone (electric kalimba), a powerful brass section and some
political lyrics. Housed in a beautiful letterpress sleeve, it's a
terrific package of outstanding music. For more info, check out

That's all for this week - ciao for now!
David
