    we invite you to a forum on world affairs with the hopes of shedding
    light on the complexity of the current state of international
    affairs. the evening will feature a discussion between scholars,
    activists, students and concerned citizens to promote diversity,
    tolerance and peace beyond borders. we hope to ultimately inspire
    people to seek peace and justice through non-violent means.

    scheduled speakers include:
    -hamid dabashi: columbia university professor, Ph.D. in sociology of
    culture and islamic studies
    -jean francois vidal: delegate for international relations- action
    against hunger
    -michael letwin: president of the association of legal aid attorneys
    -alon ben-meir: middle east project director at the world policy
    institute (ny), professor of international relations at NYU
    -cynthia cotts and peter noel: staff writers at the village voice
    -david rieff: writer and policy analyst for humanitarian organizations
    -john gershman- codirector of the global affairs program of the
    interhemispheric resource center (IRC)

    the evening will also feature post-event screenings of 'manufacturing
    consent: noam chomsky and the media,' by mark achbar & peter
    wintonick and caipirinha co-founder iara lee's short film 'beneath
    the borqa in afghanistan.'

    CAIPIRINHA productions (pronounced 'ky-pee-reen-ya') is an
    independent mixed media arts & culture company with activities in the
    fields of film, music and human rights.in 2001, CAIPIRINHA continues
    to host a variety of lectures + events to raise awareness of
    international issues, hoping to bring about action against violations
    that continue to plague the global community. with our national
    campaign, we seek to encourage ordinary people to participate in the
    discussion of complex world affairs.
