Hello Everyone!!
Hope all is well...in the November issue of Down Beat there is a NICE
article on my artist, and I just had to share this with you because it
tickled me to death...here's how it begins, and you will get the point I
am sure:
Still the Man
Chico Hamilton Grooves at 80
By Robin Tolleson
Chico Hamilton has always been about "hip". Remember the floor-length red
cape he wore over black tie on the cover of Chico Hamilton- His Greatest Hits
(Impulse), the gold cigarette holder, the impeccable goatee- it's clear he fancies
himself a "mod". But for someone who has seemingly always been about standing
out, his drumming has always been about togetherness, promoting the band good.
His subtle but sure trapwork was a catalyst for artists like Billie Holiday, Nat King
Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, Gerry Mulligan, Lionel Hampton and Slim Gaillard,
and his own quintets during the 50's and 60's featured such players as Eric Dolphy,
Jim Hall, Larry Coryell and Charles Lloyd. As he celebrates a new release, Foreststorn
(Koch Jazz), and a milestone birthday, Chico proves that 80 and "hip" are very do-able,
together".
You gotta love the "it's clear he fancies himself a "mod" part!! LOL I do n-e ways!!
Thanks.
Peace.
Keep the Faith.
Jeffrey
