    Greetings all,

I'm new to the list. My name is Christopher Chase. I'm originally from
Oklahoma in the United States, and now live in southcentral Michigan.
I've been a dabbler...listening to acid jazz on an of for a few years now.
I've found myself in a doctoral program in American Studies--pursuing
interests in ambient music and culture...acid jazz... trip-hop...
    downbeat...after hours..and yes, even New Age :-)

I come to this as a beginning fan and as an academic, for which I make no
apologies :-). I'd like to ask if anyone knows of scholarly treatments of
acid jazz, or related material--also if anyone knows the location and name
of physical spaces or lounges in the Detroit or Chicago area that specialize
in creating acid jazz or ambient environments---

And to finish out this intro--here's whats in my CD changer:

Brazilia Fila - Another Late Night
Hooverphonic - A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular
This is Acid Jazz - After Hours
Panthalassa - The Miles Davis DJ remixes
    Vangelis - Blade Runner soundtrack
    India Arie - Acoustic Soul
    Wyclef Jean - The Carnival
    John Coltrane - Blue Train
Paul Pena - "Genghis Blues" soundtrack
    Realworld Sampler - "Bliss"
Juan Manuel Serrat - Dedicado a Antonio Machado Poeta
    David Darling - Cello Blue
The Deep Listening Band--- The Ready-Made Boomerang
The Deep Listening Band-- Deep listening

    pax,

    Christopher
