even though i'm a vinyl guy, i agree with
elson--mostly social conditioning. we've gone from
watching people jump around on stage w/guitars to
flailing about behind keyboards & mixers to slapping
platters on turntables. think about almost any
criticism you can make about seeing someone mix w/cds
and then think about what your parents or grandparents
would say about watching someone "play records" as a
performance--betcha it's about the same...
as far as why i prefer mixing vinyl to cds for my own
shows mostly it comes down to having honed my
turntable technique for many years. there's only one
cd line that doesn't require drastically different
techniques for me to play--pioneer cdj.
unfortunately, most places w/cd players use the denon
(more cost and space effective). the pioneer cds are
engineered to be easy for vinyl djs to use (the
marketing and sales staff are all djs).
besides, a re-wind doesn't sound nearly as cool on a
cd...
