the subject hardly leaves anyone here indifferent:) zach made a radical but rather good point - it`s about tradition and dj aesthetics, not much about anything else. of course it`s quality of the dj-set that matters, but do you really think a well respected dj would loose any reliabilty if somone noticed him "toying" with cd-s during an ecstatic set? although it didn`t start like a war between cd-s and vinyl it has become one for now. agreeing with someone stating that dj culture is a culture of 12", I would also point out that it`s also closely related to dj`s mission of familiarising audiences with rarer kind of tracks & neverheard versions of known songs, which can hardly be found on commonly available compilations.
here in Estonia there seems even be a different word for dj-s playing with cd-s - "diskor":)) ok, maybe i´m dreaming...
