Wagon Cookin'As far as I know, Wagon Cookin' are two Spaniards who live in
an old train wagon (hence the name). Their first release on Odori Records
in stellar, particularly the B side, 'Leaving the Madness.' I've yet to
purchase the Appetizers release, but only because I can't find it.
Now here's two questions for the group. One, I just picked up the 'Dark
Drums' compilation of Larry Levan "Afro-Centric Anthems." No label is
listed and worse, song titles are given without artist credits. Beside
Fela's 'Sorrow Tears and Blood' I have no idea who is responsible for 'Sun
Sun Sun,' 'Jingo Laba,' and 'Eru Cu.' Anybody knowledgeable in this era or
disco able to fill me in?
Secondly, I'm curious if anybody knows who's responsible for the 'Brazil
Funk' LP. I'm sure it's a bootleg, and I'm curious who owns such a sick
collection. Elson Chaves doing Soul Makossa is absolutely crazy.
Finally, we've been discussing the ethicality of playing tracks off
compilations. Yes, there is a certain cachet in playing a crazy obscurity,
but to limit yourself to originals turns DJing into a game of buying
expensive records. So while I will continue to search for first pressings,
I will continue to include tracks from compilations in my sets.

Last week I bought a twelve inch by Wagon Cookin' called Primer Plato Con
Cuchara on the Appetizers label (003). (Although I don't speak Spanish, I
prefer the lush downbeat B side, El Segundo Servir Muy Caliente) Has anyone
ever heard of artist/label? Who is this?
