We're a little on the ragged side due to lack of sleep from staying
out late to see Adrian Sherwood mash it up at Dub Mission's 5th
anniversary party last night.....the ON-U master premiered a number
of new tracks from his forthcoming solo album, past classics and
brought along Ghetto Priest for some superb live vocalizing....as I
mentioned last time, this week will find us attending Laurie
Anderson's first U.S. club date at Bimbo's on Thursday, then heading
to the Great American Music Hall the following evening for Matthew
Herbert, Ursula Rucker and Tipsy......local listeners take note:
we'll have tickets to give away for the show, so be sure to tune in.
In the box: new 12"ers from Soulpatrol (liking this one a lot), Afro
Force, Russ Gabriel, a most summer-y chune from Adam Goldstone and
last but not least, a very organic and soulful jam from Blak Beat
Niks that features some outstanding female vocals and sounds like a
real band playing live in the studio - my pick for the week.
Album-wise, we've got downtempo hip-hop from Mr. Bird, the
outstanding fifth album from Omni Trio, Italian cinema-gone funky
from The Dining Rooms and leftfield pop from Simian - an act who
appear obsessed by the notion of grafting together assorted animal
parts to create new and unspeakable hybrids....don't tell anyone, but
we managed to score advance copies of the new Leonard Cohen and Aphex
Twin CDs too.....shhhh!
Don't forget: last week's show is up and streaming at Live365 for
your listening pleasure.
Ciao for now,
David
