    Cuki chart, playlists, news!
    16.09.01 Week 37

Apologies for not posting Cuki bizniz last week! No way in
the world could I even contemplate posting a chart or news.
I think you would all agree there are absolutely no words to
describe how we felt for what we saw on the Tuesday 11th
    of September 2001.
We will do our best though to carry on, even if our lives will
    never be the same again.

Think we gonna have to get MK Ultra to do a weekly
column! Great response to the Hair products 'ting'.
Wait till he give us a top five chat up lines. This the
guy that makes Barry White look like Norman Wisdom!
MK's height is about 185 cms. That slick well groomed
hair, dark unblemished skin. Girls, it's all over Jazzanova.
I can tell you too that it's not all in proportion. If that was
the case, he'd be 2 metres tall. Work it out yourselves!

I have to mention on the subject of Hair products, one
obvious omission from the list is the essential hair product
as used by Dom Servini. Speedy Servini uses Castrol
GTX (SAE 5W-20) multigrade. Well, that's what it looks like
    he uses!

Good buddies Keyser & Shuriken staying at Cuki's a few
weeks back! I'm sure those who ventured to Pete's 'Jelly
Jazz' thing in Plymouth and the Brighton 'Jazz Rooms' and
London's 'Jazz Cafe' gigs all enjoying themselves. I know
Nik Weston was running out of note paper trying to track
all the tunes the guys played. I have to say a few words
about Tibi and Gabor from Budapest. Their circular is still
the best read around cyberspace on our scene. Their
enthusiasm for the beat and the history of all things musical
is enormous I've said it before but it always gives me such
pleasure knowing the next generation of headz. Hungary
represented by two enthusiastic and knowledgeable guys.
Do check their wonderful radio show on Tilos radio each
    and every week. http://tilos.hu

    Hi-fi: http://tilos.hu/mp3/96/Wednesday/0000.m3u
Look out too for some new productions by the duo in remix
form for various artists. Right now the hottest CD doing the
rounds in London town is a compilation by the boys of all
the new bitz from Budapest. 'Hush Hush' from Budapest!
    We love your boots K&S.

Also staying at Cuki's this week we had Dirk Rumpff from
Off-track radio and Compost records in Munich and
Chris Berg from Gothenburg. Cuki's joint turning into a
guest house for European DJ's and producers we think!

Massive request for more London doddlings.
This week we give you 'Nik Weston top 5 Tee shirts'
Yes folks, we have a exclusive for ya! The infamous
Nippon Nik and that amazing tee shirt collection! As
witnessed by the London Jazz Mafia of Berwick St and
    surrounding areas!
    1. 'Calm'
While Calm continues to make slightly below average
''not sure what kinda music I like'' records. This tee shirt
will and always be firmly rooted at the number one spot.
Logo small but Nik feels extra mighty in this his finest
fashionable accessory! And why hasn't Calm been
signed to Counterpoint records! That's the real question!
For those who don't know, Calm is an artist from Japan
    that nobody knows.
    2. 'Verve'
This been pissing off many peeps including myself for
long time! Maybe the only green Verve tee shirt in
existence. Bright orange jazz logo and super sexy on
Nik's handsome and muscular frame! Ironic thing is,
Nik doesn't own a Verve record before 1998. Cal who!
You need this tee boys and girls!
    3. 'Especial'
It's Japanese folks! 'Swifty' art work but Nik wouldn't
know that. He just knows its from the land of the rising
Honda. Sleepwalker KJM, etc. We are happy though
to report that Especial only deal with the finest quality
musical outings! Lets hope they don't sign Calm!
    4. 'Mukatsuku'
Original flava! Rarer than Harry Whitaker's 'Black
Renaissance' These go for big bucks now. Tuesday
night at 'The Clinic', nuff Japanese girlies at the bar,
dodgy Krush records on da decks! I'm getting all tearful.
Mukatsuku means something rude in Japanese. First correct
answer gets a copy of 'Black Renaissance'! (on CD)
    5. 'Bite your Granny'
So rare there is only one in existence! Not even this co
resident DJ has one! Pete Fowler designed logo so you
know its got classic status and class. This tee only making
appearances at the very best venues worldwide. First
person to give me the origin of 'Bite your Granny' gets a
    well dodgy 'Calm' CD!

Nippon Nik will be travelling to Japan at the end of this
month. Expect a bunch of new enrties in next months Nik
    top five tee's.

I need some help with UVO (Unidentified vinyl object)
Four track twelve with female vocal and percussive feel,
in Portuguese I think. Catalogue number PM01
    Help would be cool!

Lastly a shout out this week to Robert in Harta. Holding it
down in middle Hungary. Respect. The mail man will be
visiting you very soon Robert ;)

    #### #### This weeks 4 Hero chart (* New Entry) #### ####

    1.* 4 Hero - 9 by 9 (Remixes)(Talkin Loud) 2x12"
Marcus Intalex and King Britt reworks on the awesome
9 by 9 track. The track that won't even make the finished
album! I'm on a mission to chart every 4 Hero production
in circulation. This is not even hard to do. Come on guys
this is turning into 4 Hero appreciation society. Can
someone make a tune, a sound that can topple this! Gotta
say also that the track 'Contemplating' brought me the
most peace in all of last weeks madness.

    2.* Nathan Haines - Long (4 Hero remix)(Chilli Funk) 12"
Great combination with Nathan get a well deserved remix
by todays hottest ticket. One of the favoured tracks on the
album by various headz worldwide gets the broken beat
Co-op thang. What about a remix album? That would be
    kinda cool!

    3. 4 Hero - 'Sampler' (Talkin Loud) 12"
It just gets better! Dollis Hill or Heaven! I'll take Dollis
Hill. Another day, Hold it down, Blank Cells and
Twothesame seeing quality time on the 1200's. This
probably never seeing a commercial release so hunt
down the sampler twelve before the album drops in
mid October. 4 Hero taking the top two slots. Yep you
the album will be number 1. In its on time though.

    4.* Swell Session - Gone (Hollow) CD-R
Second instalment from Gothenburg's hottest property!
As always you get two sides of pure quality. This time
you get a top notch Jamie Jimpster remix too. Destined
to be as big as 'The Music in her eyes'. Yukimi on the
    vocals as ever.

    5. 4 Hero - Les Fleur (Talkin Loud) 12"
Well, you know what be big fans we are of Dego
and Marc. You know we never miss out on a remix
or a production in any of their guises. This though is
something very very special! One of the most beautiful
tracks every composed gets the utmost respect from
these guys! If you ever wanted a Stepney production
to be reborn in the 21st century, you ask 4 Hero. Check
for 9 by 9 track on the flip that won't be appearing on the
album. Unless of course you live in Japan!

    6. Gotan Project - La Revancha del tanga (Ya basta) 2xLP
We got the album! 10 glorious tracks from the streets of
gay Paris. Those who got off on 'El Capitalismo' and
'Triptico' know what to expect, others are in for a treat
off the Richter scale. Do not over look this album when
it hits the streets. We're talking classic here.

    7.* Fertile Ground - 'Mixes' (Counterpoint) CD-R
Permission from Wesser to chart the Wai Wan and Kaidi
Tatham remixes for the next twelve from Baltimore's finest.
Look out also for the second album from Fertile Ground.
Look out for the live shows. Just look out!

    8.* V/A - Freezone 7 (SSR/Crammed) 2xCD-R
More permission, this time from compiler DJ Morpheus to
chart his wonderful excursion into the Freezone! Titled 'Seven
is, Seven is' and featuring too many to name but always the
cream of the present crop. We be really into the very moving
and ambient Ananda Project track. Freezone still the best
    comp for your money

    9. Chateau Flight - Autopower (Peter Kruder remix)(Versatile) 12"
I:Cube, Gilb-R, Osulande, Peter Kruder all on one twelve!
Then you know this has gotta be good especially the
remix by Peter Kruder. Paris via Vienna sounds like
a pretty good sound clash to me. In a 'Voom Voom'
    stylee.

    10. Jimpster - Deep Down (Kudos) 12"
12.20am! Red car approaching Big Ben! Me and the
kid from Gothenburg! Plastic People here we come.
Shaker sound followed by conga groove! The kid from
Gothenburg, he informs the Cuki to listen out! The red
car speeds, slick gear changes, volume control on the
column on the up! Warm Rhodes, shaker still sounding
good, vocoder enters! A whisper about being 'deep
down'! Plastic People can wait, we go the long way round.
Chadwick informs us, but we already know! Red car
speeds off into the distant night! Me and the kid from
Gothenburg. Respect to the Jimpster for the 12"!

    11.* Plej - V/T (Plej) 12"
A bit special this! Ta to Chris for bringing this via
Gothenburg. Very limited twelve that just melts
my membrain Soothing slice of techie house that
should get bigger props then just this humble DJ.
First heard this when Andreas from the Swell
Session dropped it at a gig at 'Granny'. Nice to
    have my own copy!

12.* Jaymz Nylon - One Nation (Recloose remix) 12"
Charted this on an Irma comp quite recently but nice
to have a twelve of this and you know we never miss
an opportunity to big up Matt from Detroit. Whether it
be for his own imprints, Omoa, Planet E or for remix
bizniz worldwide you gotta check the Recloose.

    13.* Sequel - Upsolid (Domu remix)(Straight Ahead) 12"
Another guy on the block that just keeps on delivering!
One Dominic Stanton aka Domu. This time giving the
west London - Bradford connection via Switzerland's
    awesome Straight Ahead records.

14.* Plastic Fantastic Machine - Whistle Song (Junior) 12"
Classic Frankie Knuckers tune gets reworked from Japan.
More subtle than the original but still infectious enough
to keep the floor and the headz happy. Avoid the well
dodgy remix on the other side, not sure who by! No info
    on the white.

15.* BB Boogie - Tell him (Booty bounce Pt 2)(Laws of Motion) 12"
Classic track from Roy Ayers/Ladies of the Eighties!
Then became classic again via west London, then
became even more fun with another Bugz remix. We
waiting for a 4 Hero remix!

    16.* Soulstice - Fall into you (Landslide remix)(Om) 12"
Tim Land aka the guy who delivers the best 2 step on
the planet gets super comfy with this quality release
stateside. Vocals, keys, harmonies, everything! The
man has yet to produce anything that hasn't made it
into a Cuki chart. I get to DJ with him in a few weeks
time, ouch, I'll be looking for his autograph.

    17. Michelle Shaprow - If I lost you (Scuba mix)(Warner Bros) 12"
It's a Scuba mix, do I have to tell you more! No, I didn't
think so! You hold these record by the edges, you put
them back in their proper sleeves, the proper way in too!
King Britt...... the man, Scuba trip........ the ultimate dance
    floor experience!

    18. Yeterdays New Quintet - 'Album' CD & 7"
Stripped naked of all unessentials. Rhodes, Wurlies,
Vibes and the best Drum kit out there left to take you
on this sparse but intimate journey. Hip Hop or Jazz?
Who cares! The Invazion has started. It started out west.
Be ready. The album, awesome! Versions of 'Sun
Goddess' and 'Daylight' being the highlights. Sick!

    19. Asheru & Blue Black - Elevator Music (Seven Heads) 12"
Without a doubt my favourite piece of hip hop of recent
times! Asheru & Blue Black of Unspoken Heard fame
come with those warm jazzy vibes, mucho educated
lyrics and hypnotic beats. Holding tight for a forthcoming
album too. Dego gotta be feeling this one!

    20. Albin Janoska - Lem (Klein) 12"
How we love the spooky sound tracks! Spooky 'boots'
going to Vienna and looking forwards to more from the
'Small' label in Wien. Proper left field hip hop from a new
talent on the final part of the 'Sincerely yours' showcase.
Do check out the first four releases too! Mid October the
release date and I'll be drinking proper coffee in my new
    home town by then.

    21. Mondo Grosso - MG4R (Sony) 3xLP
Remix album featuring Tania Maria getting two step
treatment from the Wideboys and Amel Larreriux getting
slightly more subtle treatment from the Ananda Project.
Blaze and Da Lata adding the list of top draw remixers.
Excellent remix project! And didn't Nik get all excited
about having the vinyl. We got it too bro.

    22. Incognito - Come a day (Para:Diso mix)(Talkin Loud) 2x12"
Vikter Duplaix , 4 Hero, Ski all on the remix tip for the
new album. I'm plumbing for the Venom/Bluey own
remix of 'Come a day' which had the train spotters out
with their note book and pens at Granny last week.

23.* The Other People Place - Lifestyles of the ... (Warp) 12"
Slick little twelve with a superb down beat track called
'Sunrays' and a slick edgy house track called 'Eye
Contact'. Not everything we dig on the Warp imprint
    but this gets the nod.

    24.* Cai - Absolute (live)(Out of the Loop) 12"
How come the Cuki always checking the B-side first!
Could it be he's a bum man! Forget the very forgettable
version of 'The Ghetto' on the A side but do check a
worthwhile live jam on the flip. Eye contact at 90cms
    above the ground.

    25. V/A - Organic Soul (Soul Brother) 2xLP
Respect to Soul Brother for getting on this. Laurnea,
N'dambi, Ledisi and Karen Bernod, some of the new
breed of outstanding vocal talent gets another mention
through this wonderful compilation. Most of the tracks
only ever seeing the dreaded CD format. Nice to get
this stuff on the vinyl front and will be in the box for
    'Granny' for many a month.

    26. Afro Force - Goza (2000 Black) 12"
The record with two catalogue numbers! First heard
in Dub form on the 'Phuturistc dancin' comp outta Bitasuite
now we get the original lick through Dego's '2000 Black'.
There must have been some mad puff going on that night!

    27. Beatless - Love from the sun (Ubiquity) 12"
Second twelve from the forthcoming album. This one a bit
spesh too. 'Love from the sun' one of my favourite fusion
tunes gets the 21st century rub. Special guests in the form of
Jeanne and Chache, aka vocalists with the 'Sons and
Daughters of Life' give the track the ultimate blessing.
A-Side worth investigating too. Title track from the
forthcoming album with a remix by yes you guessed it!
Opaque aka Seiji. Does this man ever sleep?

    28. V/A - Omoa music sampler (Omoa) 12"
Recloose and buddies bring it on! New music from
Detroit, music to butterbuns and all! The twelve has
a seal that it invites you to go ahead and open! As if
I need inviting! My gruppy little hands sweating with
excitement as the needle hits the various grooves.
And this just the start. My buns well and truly buttered.
I suggest you seek and enjoy the same experience.

    29. Kitty Winter & Gipsy Nova - Feel It (Spinning Wheel) 1xLP
Old album and one that has been missing from my
collection for far to long! But thanks to the guys at
Spinning Wheel this will see a worthy reissue in October!
We know about tracks such as 'New Morning' and 'Mato
Pato' but the rest of the album is a beautiful listening
    experience too.

    30. Victor Davis - Sound of the Samba (JCR) 12"
When skies are grey and troubles arrive. Escape
to the sound of the samba. I'm sure you all know
about Victors credentials! His wonderful song writing,
his beautiful and soothing musicianship, his ability to
touch ,heal, calm! His voice, his gentleness. It will be
impossible for this man to ever make a bad song.
Hold tight for a stunning album outta Haagar St too.

    #### #### Coffee Compliment #### ####

A compulsion to have this record very near my
    turntable this week
Marvin Gaye - 'Whats goin' on'
    Motown 11190 (1971)
The first of the truly great Motown albums. Dealing
with a multitude of social issues at the time. It really
doesn't get any deeper than this. Marvin at his most
sincere and definitely at his most creative! New styles
and harmonies that were never heard before on a
Motown release. Tracks and lyrics that have become
imbedded in our souls. Probably the most epic of all
musical journeys. The sadder the song, the more
    beautiful it was.
What's Going On, What's Happening Brother,
Flyin' High (In the Friendly Sky), Save the Children,
God Is Love, Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology), Right
On, Wholy Holy, Inner City Blues.
