It was inevitable that this announcement would come from one of the Big Labels sooner or later, but it's still significant for people who (1) buy cds as their primary format, (2) make personal comps from discs they own and/or (3) use peer-to-peer software as a means of sampling music. Whenever there's a major shift being made in terms of how consumers can use a product I think it's news.

Maybe obvious for the hack-inclined among us list members, but count me among those who is clueless about how to get around these types of restrictions. Should someone have info that will help make the process more "obvious" for me, please advise.
