    Cuki chart, playlists, news!
    23.09.01 Week 38

Yep, Brown Boots on his way to Vienna! And to live too.
Important message I guess to all the peeps, record
labels, artists, promotional companies that send me their
fine slabs of vinyl and incredibly hot and hush hush CD-R's.
    My new address will be

    Alan Brown
    Pillergasse 7/20
    1150 Vienna
    Austria
    Telephone/Fax 0043 18127073

I will be leaving London on the 29th of September.
There will also a couple of weeks holidays involved in the
haul though I'm not sure where I am going yet. Whatever
or wherever, you may not get a Cuki circular for a few weeks.
Don't be alarmed, he will reappear, this time giving you the
low down on the beautiful city of Vienna and of course my
travels. I will be making a point of Visiting Blighty at least
once a month, so mailing companies who do not wish to
spend the excess amount on postage, I will come and visit
    you all personally.
I want to take this opportunity too to thank all the above
people for supplying me with the latest and greatest. Hope
this circular, my charts and my gigs have gone some way
    to repay you back.

Many thanks to all who have wished me well on my little
adventure. I'll try and get back to those with specific questions.
There's a lot of mail though so hang in there guys.

This e-mail account too will also be going so please mail me at
cukipapa@hotmail.com till I set up a new account in Vienna.
Those who have mailed me at home alan@cukipapas.fsnet.co.uk
Can you please mail me again at cukipapa@hotmail.com as hard
drive failure has caused the PC to make a visit to the vendor for
repairs. Last messages were read over a 10 days ago!

Good luck to Matt aka Recloose on his big adventure from Detroit
to NZ. We be still checking his wonderful sound even if he was on
    Pluto!

Many thanks to Eivind for helping me out in Niks absence
at 'Granny' last week. Nice to have a member of the Moosejuus
crew here all the way from Norway. Eivind the original jazzplayboy
    DJ! I'm just his disciple.

'Bemsha' 3rd birthday party! 2nd of October, Nathan Haines and the
boys get their toys out and do it live each Tuesday. This gonna
be a bit special though. Notting Hill Arts Club the venue. Extra Specail
DJ's out and about to add to the vibe. Still the best Tuesday runnings
    in town.

Shouts to Arnaud and Phillipe from Ya Basta/Gotan Project (Paris)
in town last weekend. One of the things I will miss about London is
bumping into the many journey men who visit the smoke. Do get
ready for the awesome Gotan Project album. Whether in your CD
player at home or the turntables at your local club, this album cuts
the moutard (mustard, if I didn't spell it right!)

Shouts to Jamie (Difusion) Look out for excellence, forthcoming
    on Solaria records.

To the good guys at Plej in Sweden. The hottest twelve flying out
of Junkies last week was ten copies of this tight little twelve.

Doesn't Speedy have the most wonderful girlie! How'd he do that!

Ouch, that's it till the next time! Luv ya boots!

    #### #### This weeks (* New Entry) #### ####

    1.* Marky, Patife, Esom & Fernada P - So Tinha (Movemnet) 12"
Ouch! What a great surprise getting this through the post!
Next wave of Brazilian drum n bossa sounding extra fine.
Those who needed new soles to their shoes after a few
rewinds of Sambassim, get ready! Maybe I should have
    moved to Brazil?

    2.* Ian O'Brien - A history of things to come (Peacefrog) 2xLP
If only the world was like a Ian O'Brien record? We'd have
sunshine at midnight, a world free of famine and conflicts.
Unlimited love and happiness spread throughout. With all
the madness going around these days, this album offers
an inner peace and sanctuary. 14 tracks that help you step
    off the planet.

    3.* Difusion - Khameleon (Solaria) CD-R
Solaria on a roll with forthcoming bitz from Hajime Yoshizawa,
Flytronix etc. This though the cream of the new crop, maybe
even the best yet from Solaria! Tougher then 'Illusive Angel'
and that was pretty tough. Jamie and Daniel let rip and this
going to destroy quite a few bass bins along the way.

    4. Nathan Haines - Long (4 Hero remix)(Chilli Funk) 12"
Great combination with Nathan get a well deserved remix
by todays hottest ticket. One of the favoured tracks on the
album by various headz worldwide gets the broken beat
Co-op thang. What about a remix album? That would be
    kinda cool!

    5. 4 Hero - 9 by 9 (Remixes)(Talkin Loud) 2x12"
Marcus Intalex and King Britt reworks on the awesome
9 by 9 track. The track that won't even make the finished
album! I'm on a mission to chart every 4 Hero production
in circulation. This is not even hard to do. Come on guys
this is turning into 4 Hero appreciation society. Can
someone make a tune, a sound that can topple this! Gotta
say also that the track 'Contemplating' brought me the
most peace in all of last weeks madness.

    6. 4 Hero - 'Sampler' (Talkin Loud) 12"
It just gets better! Dollis Hill or Heaven! I'll take Dollis
Hill. Another day, Hold it down, Blank Cells and
Twothesame seeing quality time on the 1200's. This
probably never seeing a commercial release so hunt
down the sampler twelve before the album drops in
mid October. 4 Hero taking the top two slots. Yep you
the album will be number 1. In its on time though.

    7. Swell Session - Gone (Hollow) 12"
Second instalment from Gothenburg's hottest property!
As always you get two sides of pure quality. This time
you get a top notch Jamie Jimpster remix too. Destined
to be as big as 'The Music in her eyes'. Yukimi on the
vocals as ever. Quality pressing on the twelve too.

8.* Frankie Valentine - Below the Radar (Sunshine) CD-R
Outta Vienna, but London soul boy delivers an exceptional
album with the perfect blend of percussion, house and soul.
Frankies personality runs right through this, warm, sincere
and very thoughtful. A beautiful album.

    9. 4 Hero - Les Fleur (Talkin Loud) 12"
Well, you know what be big fans we are of Dego
and Marc. You know we never miss out on a remix
or a production in any of their guises. This though is
something very very special! One of the most beautiful
tracks every composed gets the utmost respect from
these guys! If you ever wanted a Stepney production
to be reborn in the 21st century, you ask 4 Hero. Check
for 9 by 9 track on the flip that won't be appearing on the
album. Unless of course you live in Japan!

    10.* Yeterdays New Quintet - V/T CD, 12" & 7"
Stripped naked of all unessentials. Rhodes, Wurlies,
Vibes and the best Drum kit out there left to take you
on this sparse but intimate journey. Hip Hop or Jazz?
Who cares! The Invazion has started. It started out west.
Be ready. Check the new twelve for even more class.

    11. Gotan Project - La Revancha del tanga (Ya basta) 2xLP
We got the album! 10 glorious tracks from the streets of
gay Paris. Those who got off on 'El Capitalismo' and
'Triptico' know what to expect, others are in for a treat
off the Richter scale. Do not over look this album when
it hits the streets. We're talking classic here.

    12. Fertile Ground - 'Mixes' (Counterpoint) CD-R
Permission from Wesser to chart the Wai Wan and Kaidi
Tatham remixes for the next twelve from Baltimore's finest.
Look out also for the second album from Fertile Ground.
Look out for the live shows. Just look out!

    13. V/A - Freezone 7 (SSR/Crammed) 2xCD-R
More permission, this time from compiler DJ Morpheus to
chart his wonderful excursion into the Freezone! Titled 'Seven
is, Seven is' and featuring too many to name but always the
cream of the present crop. We be really into the very moving
and ambient Ananda Project track. Freezone still the best
    comp for your money

    14. Dan Curtain - Spaceman (Recloose remix)(Elypsia) 12"
Happy to have this on Vinyl. Recloose as always brings the
remix to a new level. If you have trouble locating this twelve
hold tight as Compost will feature this on the next edition of
Future Jazz! And that's exactly what it is.

    15. Chateau Flight - Autopower (Peter Kruder remix)(Versatile) 12"
I:Cube, Gilb-R, Osulande, Peter Kruder all on one twelve!
Then you know this has gotta be good especially the
remix by Peter Kruder. Paris via Vienna sounds like
a pretty good sound clash to me. In a 'Voom Voom'
    stylee.

    16.* Harmonic 33 - Kaleidoscope Sounds EP (Alphabet) 12"
Mark Pritchard on the hip hop trail! Excellent excursion into
twisted hip hop. Similar to the work of Madlib and YNQ.
Cinematic and Exotica in places but with the phattest of
    breaks and drums.

    17. Jimpster - Deep Down (Kudos) 12"
12.20am! Red car approaching Big Ben! Me and the
kid from Gothenburg! Plastic People here we come.
Shaker sound followed by conga groove! The kid from
Gothenburg, he informs the Cuki to listen out! The red
car speeds, slick gear changes, volume control on the
column on the up! Warm Rhodes, shaker still sounding
good, vocoder enters! A whisper about being 'deep
down'! Plastic People can wait, we go the long way round.
Chadwick informs us, but we already know! Red car
speeds off into the distant night! Me and the kid from
Gothenburg. Respect to the Jimpster for the 12"!

    18.* Shalark - As Long (Karat) 12"
Another twist this time from France. Herberty in form
and technique with a awesome build up. Edgy vocals
adding to the journey. Definitely one to check. Expect GP
    to play this.

    19. Plej - V/T (Plej) 12"
A bit special this! Ta to Chris for bringing this via
Gothenburg. Very limited twelve that just melts
my membrain Soothing slice of techie house that
should get bigger props then just this humble DJ.
First heard this when Andreas from the Swell
Session dropped it at a gig at 'Granny'. Nice to
    have my own copy!

    20. Jaymz Nylon - One Nation (Recloose remix) 12"
Charted this on an Irma comp quite recently but nice
to have a twelve of this and you know we never miss
an opportunity to big up Matt from Detroit. Whether it
be for his own imprints, Omoa, Planet E or for remix
bizniz worldwide you gotta check the Recloose.

    21. Sequel - Upsolid (Domu remix)(Straight Ahead) 12"
Another guy on the block that just keeps on delivering!
One Dominic Stanton aka Domu. This time giving the
west London - Bradford connection via Switzerland's
    awesome Straight Ahead records.

    22.* Bacuzzi - Scorchio (Test) 12"
Another blazing groover. Solid beats and percussion
and certain to fill any floor. Haven't got a clue where
from or who by but peak time action essential. This
    track won't let you down!

    23. Plastic Fantastic Machine - Whistle Song (Junior) 12"
Classic Frankie Knuckers tune gets reworked from Japan.
More subtle than the original but still infectious enough
to keep the floor and the headz happy. Avoid the well
dodgy remix on the other side, not sure who by! No info
    on the white.

    24. BB Boogie - Tell him (Booty bounce Pt 2)(Laws of Motion) 12"
Classic track from Roy Ayers/Ladies of the Eighties!
Then became classic again via west London, then
became even more fun with another Bugz remix. We
waiting for a 4 Hero remix!

    25. Soulstice - Fall into you (Landslide remix)(Om) 12"
Tim Land aka the guy who delivers the best 2 step on
the planet gets super comfy with this quality release
stateside. Vocals, keys, harmonies, everything! The
man has yet to produce anything that hasn't made it
into a Cuki chart. I get to DJ with him in a few weeks
time, ouch, I'll be looking for his autograph.

    26. Michelle Shaprow - If I lost you (Scuba mix)(Warner Bros) 12"
It's a Scuba mix, do I have to tell you more! No, I didn't
think so! You hold these record by the edges, you put
them back in their proper sleeves, the proper way in too!
King Britt...... the man, Scuba trip........ the ultimate dance
    floor experience!

    27. Asheru & Blue Black - Elevator Music (Seven Heads) 12"
Without a doubt my favourite piece of hip hop of recent
times! Asheru & Blue Black of Unspoken Heard fame
come with those warm jazzy vibes, mucho educated
lyrics and hypnotic beats. Holding tight for a forthcoming
album too. Dego gotta be feeling this one!

    28. Albin Janoska - Lem (Klein) 12"
How we love the spooky sound tracks! Spooky 'boots'
going to Vienna and looking forwards to more from the
'Small' label in Wien. Proper left field hip hop from a new
talent on the final part of the 'Sincerely yours' showcase.
Do check out the first four releases too! Mid October the
release date and I'll be drinking proper coffee in my new
    home town by then.

    29. Mondo Grosso - MG4R (Sony) 3xLP
Remix album featuring Tania Maria getting two step
treatment from the Wideboys and Amel Larreriux getting
slightly more subtle treatment from the Ananda Project.
Blaze and Da Lata adding the list of top draw remixers.
Excellent remix project! And didn't Nik get all excited
about having the vinyl. We got it too bro.

    30. Incognito - Come a day (Para:Diso mix)(Talkin Loud) 2x12"
Vikter Duplaix , 4 Hero, Ski all on the remix tip for the
new album. I'm plumbing for the Venom/Bluey own
remix of 'Come a day' which had the train spotters out
with their note book and pens at Granny last week.

    #### #### Coffee Compliment #### ####

Gary Bartz - I've Known Rivers
    Prestige P 66001 (1973)
Live album recorded at the Montreux Jazz thing featuring the
killer title track and quality cuts of Sifa Zote, Juju Man and Uhuru
Sassa. Hubert Eaves, Stafford James and Howard King help
take this live set to the limit. Ntu Troop posse of course being
the deepest and most spiritual of Bartz's clans. Tough double
    album.

    #### #### Granny 20.09.01 #### ####

What a numbty! Put all the records away for the
    long trip to Wien! Ooopps

    Till the next time.
