a little quote from my man nice1dave
posted on h2k a few days after MORE last year ...
For all of you who missed tonight - it was a very very nice evening at MORE
here in Los Angeles tonight!
It was my first time at MORE and it won't be the last. Hell yeah - We walked
in around 11:00 PM only to be greeted with the sound of Mr. Tony Watson just
waxing it down on the ones and twos and keeping the vibe just ever so tight.
You know how you walk into some clubs and you know it's right. Well, it was
all that and some more. The vibe at the door was so cool. The people in
club were cool. No hassles with the guest list and believe it or not, no
attitude. And the music hit it right on the mark. Tony Watson was just ever
so excellent.
Then around Midnight, birthday boy, Lars LB - straight out of Hamburg - hit
the decks and had the room going off - spinning a little afro-Cuban flavor
and then he decided to take us back - way back to an old Vince
Montana-Salsoul Tune "Who Needs Enemies" and just tore the crowd down.
Can I hear somebody say "hello?"
Then, just kept taking us back with another classic instrumental (that I
don't even know the name) and somehow when we weren't looking he reached in
the crates and pulled out SURE SHOT from TRACY WEBBER. OH shit! Memories of
Paradise Garage and Larry Levan on a hot July evening just hit me like a wall
of brix and floor was just movin to this classic that didn't even sound like
an old song. This was the shhhhh tune of the day and it sounded so fresh and
so real. Then it was time for the birthday cake with Ms. Kathy and Mr. Lars
- and the club serenaded Mr. Lars. Damn what a way to celebrate a 30th
birthday! You go Lars LB.
Peace, love and above all soul,
nice1dave
