My vote;
Herbie Hancock & the Headhunters, FLOOD.
1) Unbelievable live sound. In fact, it rivals the recording quality of Herbie's studio albums of the time, (74-75), and that's really saying something!
2) A wide variety of material. From the awesome solo piano of Maiden Voyage, what with its Bartok-ish textures, to the hot intricate funk; tracks like Spank-A-Lee show Mike Clark, Paul Jackson, and Bill Summers leaving alot of rhythm tracks from the last 25 yrs in the rear view...
This is a great concert; Tracks like "Butterfly" are actually as high quality as the studio versions!
When musicians release great live albums that actually come close to, or improve on, their studio sets, that's a true indication of talent. Who's got the great live recordings, old or new, they can recommend?
