yes yes yes, absolutely true. I am maybe a victim but also definitely a
perpetrator. There are several artists from my city who I never heard of until
they were re-imported via UK, Germany, etc. I really hope to change that by
digging a little deeper, esp in local scenes that are totally foreign. Anyone
else have that problem, that of not quite knowing where to look in your own
backyard for the upcoming talent?
Happily, though, last night we were lucky enough to catch Alma Horton in a
wonderful outdoor performance in a Center City Philly park. What a stage
presence, and what a tight band! have to admit, I was hoping they'd play the
good old Hold It Down, and wow, was it nice live. It morphs into a song that I
think I know from house, but the way they played it was a stirring
latin-funk-house jam. Super, and she took the crowd from bored to purring in her
hand.
