Greetings,
First, a heads-up regarding next week's show: we'll have a guest mix
from Tru Thoughts recording artist Jon Kennedy who was "discovered"
by Mr. Scruff and who recently released his debut album, "We're Just
Waiting For You Now." We'll tell you more about this young man from
Stockport next week. In the meantime, here are a few of the new
albums we plan on getting around to this evening:
Frederic Galliano & The African Divas - Paired down slightly from the
original two-disc release, Galliano takes dozens of recordings made
during four years of travels in West Africa and creates two "suites"
that utilize the vocal talents of a dozen different vocalists. The
result is some heavy tribal dancefloor pressure with tracks
seamlessly mixed together.
Tipsy: "Remix Party!" - San Francisco's answer to Esquivel returns
with an album's worth of remixes, courtesy of some equally wacky
producers. A truly global affair, some big names (Matmos, Seelenluft,
High Llamas) rub shoulders with some lesser known, but equally
talented artists (Messer Chups, Dim Dim, Curd Duca). If the B-52s
started their careers today and were an instrumental act, this is
what they might sound like.
Spaceheads: "Low Pressure" - I just discovered this album that was
released back in April. Spaceheads are Andy Diagram (anyone out there
remember the Diagram Brothers from the mid-80s?) on trumpet, loops
and samples and Richard Harrison on drums and percussion. Some very
spacey, jazz-fueled electronica that's sure to please your head (if
you know what I mean ;>)
V/A: "Music & Movement 2" - A tip of the ol' Kangol to Nik Weston for
the advance copy of this outstanding compilation of killer
floor-fillers, compiled by Mike Chadwick from London's Jazz FM.
Tracks previously only available on 12" from Sasso, Neon Phusion and
others, sit alongside album cuts from Batidos, Agent K, John Beltran,
Waiwan, UFO.....the list just goes on and on. Well done!
There are also some extremely cool new singles from Boom Bip
(leftfield hip-hop), I-Wolf (Wolfgang Schloegl from the Sofa Surfers)
(downtempo psychedelia), and deep soul from Kindred The Family Soul.
That's all for this time - ciao for now!
David
