Greetings friends and extended members of the jazz family & musical
continuum:
I would like to put out a call to action, community and support for the
proliferation of all styles of jazz for those living or performing in the
Southeastern United States -- or those interested in performing in the
Southeastern United States (Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South & North
Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Virginia).
I started a Yahoo Group a couple of years ago with the intent to find local
people of similar musical tastes that could share information about jazz
concerts and gigs in Atlanta (of which there is very little information or
promotion available) and possibly get people together to go to these clubs,
gigs, concerts and events.
Instead of the group evolving as a local forum for casual listeners and
connoisseurs of live jazz -- it became a community which has provided some
sense of unity for artists throughout Atlanta and the Southeast. . .at least,
it has the possibility to become as such! We need you!
It is currently in the process of becoming a forum for musicians around the
world to find and post gigs happening throughout the southeastern US. . .as
well as letting people know about new music that is accessible via the
Internet and various media. It has become a place for artists to find work,
discover open mikes and jam sessions, promote their personal projects,
request musicians, and make new contacts.
It is also a group for fans to discuss music, get information and connect
with southeastern artists. It is a site to promote independently & locally
produced CD's. It is a place to post and peruse files and links for artists
that don't have a heavy web presence. It is a place for anyone and everyone
to join in the jazz community to communicate and connect with each other!
If any of the above interests you, just click the following link. It is free,
and you can choose the details of your own membership.

By the way, I also run a college radio station in NE Atlanta / North Georgia
which features all styles of jazz from throughout the 20th century and beyond
(rag, blues, Dixieland, stomp, swing, big band, bebop, hard bop, free,
fusion, funk, R&B, Latin, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, world groove, hip-hop,
trip-hop, smooth, ambient, down tempo, deep house, drum n'bass, neo-soul,
nu-jazz, and acid jazz. . .call it what you will).
I am always looking for new music to play -- so feel free to send your CD's,
demos, press kits, and promotional material my way!
