Some dance music is getting album orientated now as well. I haven't been
buying much dnb recently but from 1997 it definitely got album orientated.
Lots of artists disappeared for two years to work on LPs and then released
huge (7 or 8 pieces of vinyl) albums, for 20-30 quid (er $50 probably) with
all filler except one or two good tracks. These tracks wouldn't come out as
singles so you had to buy the album to get them. Don't know about other
dance genres but its definitely happened with drum and bass.

Loads of artists did it: True-playaz, DJ SS, Grooverider, Ed Rush and
Optical, Ram Records, Solid State, Dillinja (took 3 years to come out), DJ
Krust, Peshay, Jon B, and others. All these normally excellent artists
released shit albums that cost shitloads. The only people who got it right
were Jonny L (twice) and EZ Rollers.

I hope it's died back a bit now. Killed my interest in dnb a bit because the
tunes became so expensive. Some artists/labels definitely released albums
with filler just to cash in on one excellent track.

At least in the old days (50's and 60's) they didn't bother making pop
artists cut an entire album when they only had a couple of marketable songs
to work with. It was a lot more like the dance/dj market is today - labels
think more in terms of single songs, not artists per se, and the comsumer
buys the track that they want without the filler crap (except for the
    occasional wack b-side).

This sh*t happens so often in current pop music - you buy the record, and
the one or two songs that you know of are the only good ones on it - that I
wonder if it doesn't have a lot to do with the explosion of internet theft.
Or maybe people just like to get free stuff...

Strange that this would be the case with Missy, though. I've got mad respect
for her skills. But I'm hearing negative things about her new one from a few
    people.
