This Saturday, December 21st, Modern Groove Assembly will bring the live
jazz breakbeats, funk, and nu-soul to a Toys for Tots benefit at LA's Cafe
Club Fais Do Do (5257 w. Adams, Los Angeles... www.faisdodo.com)
The MGA is a 9 piece ensemble made up of some of the finest musicians and
vocalists in the city. Led by musical director and keyboardist Steve
Catanzaro, the MGA features Herman Matthews (Modern Drummer magazine's R&B
drummer of the year!) on the drums, woodwind virtuoso Louis Taylor (Mariah
Carey, Ray Charles) on flute and saxes, and 23 yr. old Virgin/EMD recording
artist Kelli Stanton on lead vocals. The lineup is rounded out by Joe
Swafford on bass, Orgone's Stewart Killion on percussion, MC Kia and DJ
Theory on the 1's and 2's.
Also on the bill, LA funk fixtures Natural Afrodisiac
(www.naturalafrodisiac.com) and funky beats by DJ Episode.
This is a Toys for Tots benefit. Admission is $10 *unless* you bring a toy
with a value of $7 or more, then it's only $2!
(2 dollaz! All that funk for 2 bucks?!? As Mac B Dog would say, Man there
should be a law... it should be against the law!) Downbeat at 9:00 pm sharp.
Full soul food / cajun menu!
