Hmmmm....not sure I agree with your choice of Fila Brazillia's "Maim That
Tune". That disc was not a 2002 release, but a 1995 release. Re-releases
shouldn't really count, especially when you say "it's been done before".
'Maim That Tune' was groundbreaking for its time, and still stands out
today. I like the rest of your list, though.
Mine is forthcoming.

>Ok, so here's my list for 2002. What I did is looked thru my collection
>and
>dug out everything I bought, within the last 12 months, with a 2002 release
>date.
>
>Here's my best
>-Johnny Cash: American IV: The Man Comes Around (the best of the batch,
>imo)
>-Mr. Scruff: Trouser Jazz
>-Herbert: Secondhand Sounds
>-DJ Chebb i Sabbah: Krishna Lila (AMAZING!!!)
>-Antibalas: Talkatif
>-Melvins + Fantomas: Millenium Monsterwork
>-Below The Sea: Les Arbres Depayseront D'avantage (fans of Godspeed You
>Black Emperor! and Mogwai will love this)
>-Iannis Xenakis: Persepolis + Remixes (Persepolis is absolutely essential,
>while the remixes are merely lukewarm to bad)
>-Suba: Tributo
>-Sigur Ros: ( )
>-Polmo Polpo: The Science Of Breath (an ambient electronic must-have)
>-Manu Chao: Radio Bemba
>-Cinematic Orchestra: Every Day (This is some seriously fresh shit.
>Totally
>original and fresh. Already looking forward to their next one!)
>-Godspeed You Black Emperor: Yanqui U.X.O. (Very similar to their earlier
>stuff, but so damn grandiose in scale and GOOD!)
>-NIN: And All That Could Have Been
>-Blackalicious: Phrenology
>-Hank Williams III: Lovesick, Broke And Driftin' (WOW!!! Far better than
>his dad, and just as good as ol' granddad!)
>-Tom Waits: Alice
>-Merzbow: Amlux
>
>
>Now, for the worst:
>-Melvins: Hostile Ambient Takeover
>-Verve Remixed: (It's been done SO MANY BLOODY TIMES!!!!)
>-Rudy Ray Moore: 21st Century Dolemite (unfunny, for the most part, mixed
>in
>with bad songs and WAY too much use of the word Motherfucker)
>-John Zorn: IAO (Sounds like any one of ten albums he's already put out,
>and
>far from essential)
>-Pearl Jam: Riot Act (If you own any of their first 3 records, you already
>know what to expect. Stale formulaic rock)
>-John Zorn/Mike Patton/Ikue Mori: Hemophiliac (At fifty bucks a crack, this
>was a complete ripoff. It's autographed by all three and limited to 2500
>copies, but that's really the only thing worth mentioning here. It's not
>bad, but it ain't good either)
>-Me'Shell Ndge'Ocello: Cookie: the Anthropological Mixtape (Sounds like
>crossover Missy Elliot-ish nonsense at times. Way too slick-sounding, not
>nearly as organic and gut-bucket funky as everything that came before it)
>-Thievery Corporation: Sounds From The Verve Hi-Fi (They've added
>ABSOLUTELY
>NOTHING to these Verve tracks!! Owning alot of the original albums which
>are featured here, this cd was a complete waste of money for me. Have your
>buddy burn you a cd and you'll get exactly the same thing.)
>-Bugge Wesseltoft: Out Here In There
>-Nils Petter Molvaer: NP3 (VERY disappointed in this one. Lacks the
>haunting, dense production of his previous 2 releases, and his trumpet
>playing didn't grab me nearly as much this time around)
>
>
>Finally, the so-so, mostly because it's been done before:
>
>-Amon Tobin: Out From Out Where
>-Peace Orchestra: Reset
>-Herbaliser: Something Wicked This Way Comes
>-Boards Of Canada: Geogaddi
>-Fila Brazilia: Maim That Tune
>-Stanton Moore: Flying The Coop (not nearly as good as "All Kooked Out")
>-Tom Waits: Blood Money (I NEVER thought I'd find a Tom Waits album merely
>so-so. Surprise)
>-V/A: Afrotronic 2 (sounds like every other comp. Save your money)
>
>
>Your turn,
>
>Stimp
