Rick,
after having read your retort and having considered it for what it is worth,
I feel I have to respond in some fashion. Your assumption that I was "on"
something, even coffee is really silly. One of the reasons I have enjoyed
this list over the years is that there are interesting people who belong to
it and they generally seem to have above-average amounts of thought power,
even when they are expressing ideas and concepts that I find to be not to my
liking I still take in what is said and expressed because it comes from a
space that is in the love of the music! Quite frankly, your calling me
shallow assumes more than I care to accept, I did look at the photo of your
singer, mainly because I was interested to see whether you qualified the
display or not and you definitely did not. Yes, your singer is an attractive
woman but my comments were not made because or in spite of that and I was
not really upset at your not being a bit of an idiot, not a complete one
mind you, just a bit of a one! If you had said just 25 words on what an
incredible singer she was, or how much you loved her or are attracted to her
or how she fits into the sound of the band, that would have made all the
difference in the world but what you said really dissed her and the minds of
the people who belong to this group because I think there is some integrity
in this group of people and they are unquestionably devoted and deeply into
the music, yes, it's the music stupid, the music! That you could be enamored
of your singer is understandable and acceptable but that you chose to
portray her the way that you did is not. Still, it was your choice and I
think you found that the people on this list do not accept the point of view
you put forward and implied to be the case. It is really a priority to show
all of you since she is now a member of your band and apparently a good
singer so a clip of her voice with the band would have made any words
redundant. Now you are probably foaming at the mouth a little but chill out
dude, once people came at you about this photograph and your comment, if you
had just acknowledged what they said instead of getting pissy, then I think
that would have been a lot better. Sadly for you, there are people like me
who like to write and throw things around. Even now you have chosen not to
acknowledge this woman's talent and instead you have chosen to be defensive
about what you did and said! Please tell us now, what kind of voice does she
have, why did you choose her (beyond her looks!) and how will she contribute
to the band. It isn't easy to find good singers but there are many pretty
faces in any given crowd if that is what grabs you and the road to musical
nirvana is littered with them. I understand your ebullience at finding a
good singer, I do not understand your defensiveness at being put on the
spot. I happen to think this is a good point to begin a thread about finding
and working with other people, men and women, the good, the bad and the
uuuuuuugly (whatever that means!) but now it is up to you to play it out in
a positive way.
your move?
