yeah, i remember to listening to some of the acts mentioned as well. being
ten years old when the eighties began, my tastes were - say - rather
eclectic, anything from dead kennedys to kraftwerk.

by the mid-eighties i grew to listen to all things gloomy, music about the
miserability of life. stuff you'd call post-punk, gothic or industrial. acts
like joy division, nitzer ebb, front 242, recoil, sisters of mercy, whatever
in that direction. nowadays, i just can't listen to that stuff without a
laugh except for joy division, some early front 242 tracks (the new dutch
electro from bunker label reminds me a lot of the stuff on front's debut (?)
album "geography") and some nitzer ebb. the latter two mostly when i'm drunk
    as fuck.

anyway, i'd always have this party side as well, even in the eighties when
the adolescentt miserable me mostly took over. the party-stuff included all
t.he not-that-moody new order tracks, "bizarre love triangle" being my
all-time n.o. fave (which i still occasionally play out in clubs). also i
ventured hustle on the hip-hop/early electro tip as well, with all the
bambaataas and stuff, some go-go funk and stuff like that. and a bit of
depeche mode and synth-pop as well, not the cheesiest stuff though. and
never stock-aitken-waterman type of musik. no kylies and shit.

it all went on that way until a thingy called acid house took over and
opened new perspectives and wiews on music. the phenomenon also introduced
me properly to deejaying, and instead of listening and collecting to records
i wanted to spin myself as well. for that change i'm ever-thankful to the
hyperdelic housers' lads (the people now known of sähkö, jazzpuu and
    pan sonic fame).

enter nineties. as acid house was going to that hardcore-noise direction, i
moved to mellower sounds and found acid jazz and the rare groove stuff, dug
out again the dust-collecting 80's hip hop vinyls i had and started
collecting soul, jazz and funk and whatever, and the world to me was never
the same again. or somthin' like that.

ok, back to the original subject: i still have some eighties faves which i
still occasionally listen to. here's some sort of a (very eclectic, hmm..)
list in no particular order (also, this is a list of music i have listened
at the eighties, not of 8ts music i've found after the decade, thus counting
    out 8ts soul etc) :

most new order, bizarre love triangle (12" version) and "power, corruption &
lies" and "low life" lps being my faves
the smiths: queen is dead lp
public enemy: it takes a nation of millions to hold us back lp
eric b. & rakim: paid in full lp
    visage: fade to grey
joy division: about everything they've done except dodgy live sessions
    front 242: geography lp
    kraftwerk: computer world lp
    all old bambaataa stuff
    all old flash'n'melle mel stuff
    nwa: straight outta compton lp
    nitzer ebb: murderous instrumental
    einstürzende neubauten: halber mensch lp
nick cave albums from the 8ts, not birthday party though, the best one being
    "tender prey" from 1988
    the stone roses' 1st lp
happy mondays: 24 hours party people
laibach: sympathy for the devil ep
    chuck brown: bustin' loose
    e.u.: da butt
    the pixies: surfer rosa lp
    trouble funk: drop the bomb
    all run d.m.c.
all depeche mode, especially "music for the masses" and "black celebration"
    lps
    martin gore: counterfeit ep
dead kennedys: fresh fruit for rotting vegetables lp
the cramps: a date with elvis lp
    all finnish hardcore punk
simple minds: theme for big cities, an instrumental which fila brazillia
made a decent remix of, the original is also ok
the sundays. reading, writing and arithmetic lp
the housemartins: london 0 hull 4 lp. i always think that a certain mr. cook
made a better career within the hull lads' ranks than as a superstar dj..

so, here are some items i used to listen to back then, when i wasn't grown
to this snobbish soul/funk/jazz enthusiast as i am nowadays..:)

    cheers
